Summer is almost here, and that means it's time to watch for harmful algae blooms in Oregon's lakes, rivers, and reservoirs.

Some algae blooms can produce toxins that make people and animals sick. Children and pets are especially vulnerable.

Before heading out to the water:
✓ Avoid water that looks foamy, scummy, or resembles pea-green paint.
✓ Keep pets away from algae mats along the shoreline.
✓ Don't swim or participate in activities that create water spray if a bloom is present.
✓ Remember: When in doubt, stay out.

Exposure to harmful algae toxins can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, cramps, dizziness, and skin irritation.

Alcohol can make you drowsy at first, but it steals the deep sleep that protects your mental health. Missing out on restorative rest increases your risk of anxiety and depression. That means choosing less alcohol tonight can support a clearer mind tomorrow.

One conversation can make a difference.

On Fentanyl Awareness Day, our Opioid Prevention Program partnered with pediatrician Dr. Jill Pearson to provide education and resources to Cascade School District staff about the opioid and fentanyl crisis affecting communities across Oregon and the nation.

Dr. Pearson is passionate about protecting children and teens from the harmful effects of opioids and helping families better understand the risks these substances can pose.

Prevention starts with awareness, education, and open conversation. By working together, we can help reduce stigma, prevent overdose, and save lives.

Thank you to everyone committed to supporting youth, families, and healthier communities.

Did you know some of our amazing Spanish-speaking staff are featured on Radio Poder 98.3 FM KTUP?

They regularly join the station to share important health information, raise awareness, and discuss topics impacting our community. During their latest visit, they discussed Mental Health Awareness Month and our WIC program.

And here's a fun behind-the-scenes moment: Lisette recently learned how to operate the radio controls at Radio Poder! While she hopes to stay in the guest chair, she's now ready to jump in and keep the show going if there's ever an emergency.

We're proud of our team for helping connect our community with trusted health information in both English and Spanish.
