Despite fire suppression policies that limit access to prescribed burning, communities of landowners, volunteers, non-profits, and forestry professionals are working together on a local scale to implement the practice on private lands. These Prescribed Burn Associations leverage professional knowledge to help landowners manage their forests responsibly, and they are growing in the Pacific Northwest.
