🚨 Shift Commander Report: June 19–21, 2026
Salem, your patrol officers responded to a total of 735 calls for service between Friday and Sunday this past weekend. Saturday, June 20, was the busiest day, with 251 calls.
During this period, your officers successfully cleared 31 criminal warrants and made 7 DUII arrests through calls for service and proactive police work.
As always, your officers remained committed to responding quickly, investigating thoroughly, reducing crime, and ensuring the safety of our community and roadways.
🔍 Incident Highlights:
1️⃣ Community Event – Oakhill Avenue SE – Saturday
Officers were assigned to assist with traffic control for the annual Sikh Parade, which went from the temple to Gilmore Field and back. Approximately 1,000 people attended the permitted event. No issues were reported.
2️⃣ Warrant Arrest and Assault on Public Safety Officer – River Road N – Sunday
Officers contacted two individuals trespassing at River Road Park after the park was closed. One of the individuals, a man, had a felony Parole Violation Arrest Warrant. When officers attempted to take him into custody, he resisted and struck an officer. The suspect was ultimately arrested and lodged at Marion County Jail on charges of Assault on a Public Safety Officer, Resisting Arrest, and the warrant. The officer sustained minor injuries.
3️⃣ DUII and Firearm Recovery – Norman Avenue NE – Saturday
Officers stopped a vehicle with stolen license plates. The driver was arrested for DUII, and during the investigation, a handgun was found under the passenger seat. The passenger had left the scene earlier but was later found to be a convicted felon. The investigation is ongoing.
4️⃣ DUII and Elude – Sunnyview Road NE – Sunday
Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle reportedly driving into oncoming traffic. The driver, an elderly woman, failed to stop but was eventually boxed in by officers. She was arrested for DUII, Reckless Driving, Elude, and Driving While Suspended.
5️⃣ Domestic Violence Arrest – Newport, OR – Sunday
Officers with the Domestic Violence Response Team worked with Newport Police and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office to locate a suspect wanted for multiple domestic violence crimes. The suspect was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail, where he was lodged on multiple charges, including Domestic Assault in the Second Degree and Domestic Assault in the Fourth Degree. Additional charges are pending further investigation.
