πŸ” Incident Highlights:

1️⃣ Felony Elude – Salem Dallas Highway NW – Friday
Officers assisted in the pursuit of a motorcycle that had previously eluded multiple agencies, including Portland Police Bureau and Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The motorcycle was eventually disabled by Oregon State Police at a gas station, and the rider was taken into custody. Salem officers assisted with taking the suspect into custody and transporting him to Polk County Jail on charges of Reckless Driving and a Criminal Arrest Warrant. The suspect is facing multiple charges across various jurisdictions from Portland to Salem.

2️⃣ Planned Demonstration – Court Street NE – Saturday
Salem Police officers, along with the Traffic Team, provided support for a permitted rally held at the Capitol, which involved a march and planned street closures. Approximately 250 participants attended, and the event concluded without incident.

3️⃣ Felony Elude – Rees Hill Road SE – Sunday Morning
A patrol officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle that refused to stop and eluded the officer. The vehicle was later located on a dead-end street, and the driver was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail on charges of Felony Elude and Reckless Driving.

4️⃣ Warrant Arrest – Turner Road SE – Sunday
Officers contacted a man known to have multiple felony warrants. He was arrested and lodged at Marion County Jail on the warrants. The man was also a suspect in a Criminal Mischief case, and charges were also filed in connection with that case.

Caring for Every Block: Salem's Block Party Night!

Join us in celebrating the partnership between residents and police to make our neighborhoods safer. Since 1984, Salem has participated in National Night Out on the first Tuesday of August, along with communities across America. Here in Salem, we encourage neighbors to host individual parties right on their block!

What to Expect:

Time: Evening hours (around 6 PM - 9 PM)
Neighborhood Block Parties: Each block party is unique! Whether you choose to host a simple ice cream social or a more elaborate cookout with music and games, it’s all about what you make it. You can even request a police team to stop by for a visit!

Host Your Own Block Party:
Register: Visit www.cityofsalem.net/nno to sign up. After registering, you’ll receive a confirmation email with important details.
Street Closure/Park Use: If you want to block off your street or use a city park, complete a registration form. The permit fee is waived for National Night Out!
Deadline: Submit requests for street closures or park use by July 26, 2026.

🚨 Shift Commander Report: May 25–28, 2026

Salem, your patrol officers responded to a total of 1,156 calls for service between Monday and Thursday this past week. Thursday, May 28, was the busiest day, with 350 calls.

During this period, your officers successfully cleared 65 criminal warrants and made 3 DUII arrests through calls for service and proactive police work.

πŸ” Incident Highlights:

1️⃣ Bomb Threat – Swatting – Oak Street SE – Monday
Officers responded to a bomb threat at Salem Hospital after a caller made threats involving explosives and fi****ms. The hospital was placed on lockdown while officers, with assistance from Oregon State Police, secured and checked the area. The caller later made similar threats to a hospital in Florida. The investigation is ongoing, and the FBI has been notified.

2️⃣ Hit and Run DUII – Market Street NE – Monday
Officers responded to a hit-and-run crash where the victim reportedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect fled the scene on foot but was later located with the help of a community member. The suspect was arrested and lodged at Marion County Jail on multiple charges, including DUII, Felony Hit and Run, and Reckless Endangering.

3️⃣ Domestic Disturbance – Beverly Avenue NE – Monday
Officers responded to a report of a woman attempting to break into an apartment with a large stick. The suspect was detained without incident and lodged at Marion County Jail on charges of Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree.

4️⃣ Domestic Violence Arrest – Locust Street NE – Monday
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance between a couple. The suspect reportedly assaulted the victim while holding their infant. The suspect was located and arrested for Domestic Assault in the Fourth Degree.

5️⃣ Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Crash – Commercial Street NE – Tuesday
Officers responded to a reported vehicle versus pedestrian hit-and-run. The driver later called Dispatch and returned to the scene. He was found to have multiple warrants and was arrested and lodged at Marion County Jail on the warrants. No charges have been filed at this time for the crash since the driver reported and returned to the scene.

6️⃣ Stolen Vehicle and Firearm Recovery – Lancaster Drive NE – Tuesday
Officers located a stolen vehicle parked outside a business. The driver was found inside the business and arrested without incident. During the investigation, officers recovered an AR-style rifle from the vehicle. The driver, a convicted felon, was lodged at Marion County Jail on multiple charges, including Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

7️⃣ Stabbing – Liberty Street NE – Tuesday
Officers responded to a report of a stabbing. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds but was conscious and mobile. The suspect was detained at the scene and arrested for Assault in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

On Friday, May 22, 2026, officers from the Salem Police Traffic Team participated in a traffic safety project along the Highway 22 corridor, organized by the Marion County Sheriff's Office Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Other partnering agencies included the Oregon State Police, Stayton Police Department, Aumsville Police Department, Silverton Police Department.

The operation focused on speed enforcement and promoting safe driving behaviors, addressing the critical issue of speed-related crashes. The collective efforts of the involved agencies resulted in 180 traffic stops, with 170 speed citations issued.

Media Release: Salem Police Investigate Shooting Incident Downtown; Juvenile In Custody

SALEM, Ore., -- A 16-year-old male is now in custody at Marion County Juvenile Detention related to a shooting incident that occurred in downtown Salem on May 20, 2026.

At approximately 6:20 p.m. on May 20, officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting in the area of 220 High Street SE. Upon arrival, officers found a 17-year-old male who had been shot, with reports that the suspect ran from the scene before they arrived.

Officers provided initial first aid and wound care while securing the scene, so Salem Fire Medics could take over patient care and transport the victim to Salem Hospital. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries from the shooting.

Multiple agencies, including the Salem Police Department, Oregon State Police, and Marion County Sheriff’s Office, coordinated a search for the suspect, utilizing canines and drones. However, the suspect was not located during the initial search.

Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit were able to identify the suspect and made several attempts to locate him. Early this morning, detectives were notified that the juvenile had turned himself in at the Marion County Juvenile Department. Detectives filed charges related to the shooting. The suspect will be held at the juvenile detention center and is facing multiple charges, including Assault in the First Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

The investigation is ongoing, and further inquiries should be directed to the Marion County District Attorney's Office.

1️⃣ Stabbing – Sunnyview Road NE – Friday
Officers responded to a report of a stabbing involving a robbery on state property. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Salem Police officers provided drone and canine support to search for the suspect, but the suspect was not located. Oregon State Police is leading the investigation.

2️⃣ Swatting Threat – Commercial Street SE – Sunday
Officers responded to a bomb threat in a parking lot near businesses. The caller provided specific details about the threat. Officers checked the area and found no suspicious items. The investigation is ongoing.

3️⃣ Armed Robbery – Savage Road NE – Sunday
Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery where a man threatened the victim and demanded they empty their pockets. The victim refused the suspect’s demands and the suspect then ran from the scene. A drone and canine were used to search for the man, but the suspect was not located. The investigation is ongoing.

4️⃣ Stolen Vehicle Recovery – Silverton Road NE – Sunday
Officers located a stolen vehicle from Portland. The vehicle was occupied by two men who were detained. During the investigation, officers located a firearm and methamphetamine inside the vehicle. The driver was arrested and lodged at Marion County Jail for Unlawful Use of a Vehicle, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine. The investigation is ongoing.

5️⃣ Burglary and Canine Capture – Hyacinth Street NE – Sunday
Officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress. A drone and canine were used to search for the suspect. K-9 Rupert located the suspect, who was taken into custody while the drone provided a visual overview. Two storage units were found to have been burglarized, and stolen items were recovered. The suspect was lodged at Marion County Jail on multiple charges, including Burglary in the First Degree.

6️⃣ Memorial Day DUII Arrests – Weekend
Over Memorial Day weekend, officers investigated and made 9 DUII arrests. Six of the arrests were related to crashes, with the highest Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) recorded at over twice the legal limit at 0.17%.

7️⃣ Stolen Vehicle Arrest – Cordon Road NE – Sunday
Officers located a stolen vehicle, and two individuals were found inside. The driver was lodged at Marion County Jail for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and other charges.

1️⃣ Domestic Follow-Up Arrest – Kacey Circle NE – Monday
Officers responded to a disturbance at an apartment where a man with a confirmed Parole Violation Warrant for Robbery attempted to flee from officers. The suspect was caught and taken into custody. He was also wanted for domestic violence-related charges from a previous incident in West Salem, where he forced a car to crash while fighting with his girlfriend. The suspect was lodged at Marion County Jail on the warrant and multiple other charges, including Attempted Assault in the Fourth Degree, Reckless Endangering, and Resisting Arrest.

2️⃣ Domestic Disturbance – Commercial Street NE – Monday
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving a man who reportedly stabbed himself in the neck. The man fled the scene before officers arrived but was detained near the Police Department and transported to Salem Hospital for treatment. During the investigation, officers discovered the man had assaulted his girlfriend, causing injuries. After receiving treatment, the suspect was lodged at Marion County Jail for Domestic Assault in the Fourth Degree.

3️⃣ Drug Arrest and Warrant – Hawthorne Avenue NE – Tuesday
Officers responded to a drug complaint involving individuals reportedly using drugs in a vehicle. The vehicle was located, and two suspects were found to be in possession of methamphetamine and arrested. Both were lodged at Marion County Jail for Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substances - Methamphetamine. A third suspect, who initially walked away, was later found, arrested, and lodged at Marion County Jail on a Felony Parole Violation Warrant.

4️⃣ Restraining Order Violation and Drug Arrest – Division Street NE – Tuesday
Officers responded to a report of a restraining order violation. The suspect, who had been contacting his father in violation of the order, was arrested and found in possession of over 10 grams of methamphetamine. He was lodged at Marion County Jail on multiple charges, including Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substances - Methamphetamine.

5️⃣ Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Crash – Highland Avenue NE – Wednesday
Officers and medics responded to a crash involving a juvenile on a bicycle and a pickup truck. The juvenile was transported to Salem Hospital with injuries reported to be non-life-threatening. The driver was cited for Careless Driving.

6️⃣ Gunshot Wound – High Street NE – Wednesday
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at the transit mall. A juvenile male sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to Salem Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Despite an extensive search, the suspect was not located. Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit are actively investigating, and the case remains ongoing. Information has been shared with media outlets, and an official media release will be issued as more information becomes available. There is no active threat to the community at this time.

7️⃣ Menacing and Firearm Arrest – Wayside Terrace NE – Wednesday
Officers responded to a report of a man pointing a firearm at multiple people. The suspect fled the scene but was later located and arrested without incident. He was lodged at Marion County Jail on multiple charges, including Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Felon in Possession of a Weapon. The firearm was seized as evidence.

Keizer Police requested Salem Police assistance during a domestic violence incident. A juvenile male suspect reportedly assaulted his mother and sister before leaving the scene with his girlfriend. Salem officers assisted with a perimeter, drone deployment, and a canine track. K-9 Trusty successfully tracked the suspects to their hiding location, while drones provided a visual overview for the tracking team. Keizer Police took custody of the suspect and his girlfriend and completed their investigation.

2️⃣ Criminal Mischief – Pine Street NE – Saturday
Officers responded to a report of a man breaking a window at a local bar and threatening employees at a nearby store. The suspect left the area but was later located and taken into custody. He was lodged at Marion County Jail on multiple charges, including Criminal Mischief in the First Degree.

3️⃣ Felony Elude – Hudson Avenue NE – Sunday
A patrol sergeant attempted to stop a motorcycle for a traffic violation, but the rider refused to stop and sped away. The sergeant later found the motorcycle and rider. The rider abandoned the motorcycle and attempted to escape on foot. The suspect was ultimately apprehended by officers. He was lodged at Marion County Jail on charges of Felony Elude, Driving While Suspended - Misdemeanor, and a Criminal Arrest Warrant.

Officers responded to a theft at a clothing store involving a man stealing various items. The suspect was located and found to have a felony Parole Violation Warrant. He was arrested and lodged at Marion County Jail on charges of Theft and the warrant.

2️⃣ Warrant Arrest – D Street NE – Tuesday
Officers responded to a report of a man armed with a rifle. The man was located and detained without incident. He provided false information to officers but was identified and found to have a felony Parole Violation Warrant. What was reported as a firearm was later determined to be a tent pole. He was lodged at Marion County Jail on the criminal arrest warrant and Giving False Information to a Police Officer.

3️⃣ Theft and Drug Arrest – Sunnyview Road NE – Tuesday
Officers located a vehicle associated with a suspect in multiple shoplifting incidents. The driver, a woman, was stopped and taken into custody without incident. For more details scroll the timeline to read the media release.

4️⃣ Domestic Violence – Lansing Avenue NE – Tuesday
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance where a man reported being strangled by his girlfriend. Officers arrested the woman for Felony Domestic Strangulation. She was lodged at Marion County Jail.

5️⃣ Assist Other Agency – Sunnyview Road NE – Tuesday
Polk County Sheriff's Office sent an Attempt to Locate for a stolen vehicle. Salem officers located the vehicle and arrested a woman without incident. The suspect was lodged at Marion County Jail for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

6️⃣ Commercial Vehicle Safety Inspections – Market Street NE – Wednesday
The Traffic Team conducted Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Inspections at the Park and Ride on Market Street NE and Hawthorne Avenue NE. The officers worked for a few hours, in that time, nine trucks were inspected, revealing 47 equipment violations, 3 driver violations, and 22 out-of-service violations (including one driver). Officers issued 2 citations, 14 warnings, and towed 1 vehicle.

7️⃣ Warrant and Resisting Arrest – Portland Road NE – Thursday
Officers responded to a report of a woman trespassing at a gas station. The woman was found holding onto an employee’s legs and refusing to let go. She resisted arrest but was ultimately detained and lodged at Marion County Jail on multiple charges, including Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree and a Felony Parole Violation Warrant.

8️⃣ Unlawful Use of a Firearm – 49th Avenue NE – Thursday
Officers responded to reports of gunshots in the area. Two male suspects were located nearby, and one admitted to firing the rounds. Officers recovered 29 shell casings and a firearm that had been discarded over a fence. At this time, no injuries or property damage have been reported from the rounds fired. Both suspects were lodged at Marion County Jail on multiple charges, including Unlawful Use of a Firearm and a Criminal Arrest Warrant.

9️⃣ Robbery and Assault – Front Street SE – Thursday
Officers responded to a report of an assault at Riverfront Park. The suspect assaulted two men, stole a phone and car keys, and fled the scene. Officers were able to locate the suspect at the Pringle Parkade, where he was detained. He was lodged at Marion County Jail on multiple charges, including Robbery in the Third Degree and Assault in the Fourth Degree.

Media Release: Salem Police Make Arrest in Connection with Multiple Theft Incidents

On May 12, 2026, officers arrested Sara Maria Guzman-Staff, 39, of Salem, in connection with a series of theft incidents that occurred at various locations from December 2025 to May 2026.

Guzman-Staff had been identified as the suspect in four shoplifting incidents. All theft cases were initiated by the Telephone Reporting Office, which receives and reviews reports submitted through the department’s online reporting system. Telephone Reporting Specialists were able to connect the cases through reviewing evidence submitted by the retailers.

Telephone Reporting Specialists identified Guzman-Staff as a person of interest and coordinated the case information with officers, where it was assigned for follow-up. After further investigation, officers were able to confirm Guzman-Staff was the suspect.

On May 12, officers spotted a vehicle driven by Guzman-Staff and stopped the vehicle. During the stop, she was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

Guzman-Staff was arrested for the four theft cases and the possession of methamphetamine and was lodged at Marion County Jail for multiple charges including Theft in the First Degree and Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine.

The Salem Police Department would like to recognize the efforts and coordination between the Telephone Reporting Office and patrol officers in making this arrest and interrupting the cycle of thefts.
