Rest In Power

08/25/2026

National park supporters are protesting tomorrow.

On August 25, people will gather online and in person for a nationwide Day of Action organized by the National Parks Conservation Association. The campaign is demanding greater protection and investment for the employees who keep America’s national parks running.

The protests coincide with the National Park Service’s 110th anniversary.

Events are planned at Yosemite Valley and Muir Woods in California, Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, Acadia National Park in Maine, Assateague Island in Maryland, Cuyahoga Valley in Ohio, Big Bend in Texas, Great Falls in Virginia and New River Gorge in West Virginia.

Supporters will also gather at Kenai Fjords in Alaska, Sawmill Market in Albuquerque, Brooklyn’s John Malone Community Center and several locations around Washington, D.C., including Rock Creek Park and the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal.

In the nation’s capital, organizers plan to deliver petition signatures directly to the Department of the Interior.

Not every gathering will resemble a traditional march. The campaign includes advocacy stations, public discussions, community events and opportunities for visitors to show their support for park employees.

The National Parks Conservation Association says the Park Service has lost nearly a quarter of its permanent workforce since January 2025. Those losses include rangers, maintenance workers, educators, scientists, historians and emergency personnel.

Advocates say the shortages have reduced educational programs, limited visitor services and delayed maintenance, scientific research and conservation work. They also warn that fewer employees could weaken emergency responses and place natural and historic resources at risk.

The Trump administration rejects claims that it is undermining national parks. Officials say its policies will expand recreational access, reduce unnecessary regulations and generate money for infrastructure.

But tomorrow, park advocates will argue that roads, trails and visitor centers cannot be protected without enough experienced people to care for them.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — August 18, 2026
MISSOURI — Quentin Wilson, Democratic candidate for Missouri State Auditor, today announced the endorsement of Gerald “Jerry” Wistrand Jr., a former Republican candidate for State Auditor from Jackson County who lost in the Republican primary to incumbent State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick.

Wistrand, a veteran auditor with nearly four decades of professional experience, cited Wilson’s experience and commitment to independent accountability, professionalism, and results for Missouri citizens.

“Selecting someone who will truly be a watchdog for the great state of Missouri rather than for a personal political agenda is an important choice,” Wistrand said. “The State Auditor’s Office should be focused on providing professional judgment and service to all citizens rather than serving a partisan political master and seeking headlines.” Wistrand added that Missouri’s State Auditor should understand government operations and the auditing process while maintaining the interests of all citizens.

“A good State Auditor knows that the government should serve the interests of all citizens rather than a select few,” Wistrand said. “Quentin Wilson and I have discussed these objectives and processes, and we significantly agree on what is needed.”

“Therefore, I am encouraging all Missourians to support Quentin Wilson for State Auditor. He has the necessary experience working in state government and has helped improve government to better meet the needs of all citizens. He will encourage professionalism and service and work to help state and local governments achieve those goals.”

Wilson welcomed the endorsement. “I’m honored to receive Jerry Wistrand’s endorsement. His decades of auditing experience give him a deep understanding of the independence, professionalism, and accountability Missourians should expect from their State Auditor,” Wilson said. “This campaign is about putting effective government and Missouri taxpayers ahead of partisan politics.”
