The construction fence is mostly down around the front of the Capitol. We are so excited to have a view of the building unobscured by the fence. However, construction is still happening on the new plaza to complete some of the finishing touches.

Please note: The public entrance to the building is on the right-hand (west) side of the building as denoted by the yellow circle in the photo. At this time, please use the crosswalk on the west side of the mall to the building. This path is clear.

Currently the flashing lights on the crosswalks are not working, so please cross with caution.

After a six-year hiatus, the Capitol will be hosting the Salem Veterans of Foreign Wars #661 Uniform Display Museum through April 24. This exhibit is an annual installation curated of never publicly displayed military uniforms. This year the exhibit has 41 uniforms and memorabilia.

“This display is not to glorify war… It is to educate the public as to the price of freedom,” is the mission of the museum. The museum’s collection started more than 30 years ago and has now grown to more than 2000 uniforms. Each uniform is accompanied by a one-page biography of the person who wore it and the uniforms represent all branches of the military and all eras.

To learn more great stories preserved by the uniforms of the people that wore them, come to the Capitol Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. now through April 24.
