1000 SOLES Annual GOAL REACHED!

A little over 1,000 pairs of shoes and cleats walked out of our shoe room and onto the feet of local children, youth, and young adults this past school year. And, ineligible shoes donated made their way to a local community partner serving unsheltered adults.

Here’s the monthly shoe count breakdown:

62 pairs - August ‘23
235 pairs - September
113 pairs - October
50 pairs - November
95 pairs - December
39 pairs - January
71 pairs -February
60 pairs - March
32 pairs - April
45 pairs - May
60 pairs - June
175 pairs to The Wellness Table, Oak Park Church of God for adults*

*Shoe donations that are in good condition but aren’t eligible for youth due to style or general teen trends are donated to local adult programs. Tiny sizes go to Family Building Blocks.

This morning we counted up the number of shoe room passes we gave out to our community partners for the 2023-2024 school year.

SIXTY THREE! 63

These passes allow partners into the shoe room anytime during IKE Box Cafe business hours, 7 days per week.

Some organizations have multiple staff with passes and the majority visited the shoe room atleast twice during the year.

Yep. 1000 Soles was created by a 10th grade AVID class at South Salem High in direct partnership with the Youth Development Services Coordinator.

Though, the original Saxon visionaries have long since graduated, the City of Salem has remained committed to the shoe program.

We continue to engage teens, teachers, businesses, and places of worship each Spring thanks to the Shoe Battle of the Schools.

We offer drop-in volunteer shoe cleaning sessions year-round thanks to providing access to their Big Basement space.

And we continue to see 50-100 pairs of
*athletic shoes,
*specialty sport shoes like cleats, and
*warm boots
leave our shoe room every month thanks to our community partners who select shoes for youth they serve.

Together, let’s keep this teen service leadership program running for years to come!
