They did it! 🏆

All day long, Salem Fire & Rescue had been watching, waiting, and coordinating with Salem PD so we would be ready if Salem Hills Softball pulled off the win.

And last night, they gave all of Salem a reason to celebrate.

Mayor Simons and members of the Salem City Council met the team at the fire station with cheers and high fives before the girls climbed aboard the fire trucks for a championship parade through town.

We don’t get to help bring home a 5A State Championship trophy every day, but last night was one for the books.

Congratulations, Salem Hills Softball! Thanks for letting us be part of the celebration. 💙

You may have noticed some smoke up near Elk Ridge this morning. Elk Ridge fire department is conducting a controlled house fire. They have put significant prep and planning into this and they are using as a training opportunity as well.

Tonight at 7:14 p.m., Salem Fire & Rescue responded to the hills above Salem after some kids discovered two black labs near the High Line Canal, with one dog nearly 20 feet into a 10 x 10 irrigation box below the canal.

Thanks to Salem’s first responders, the dog was safely rescued using the new UTV and rope rescue equipment purchased last summer for situations just like this. In about 30 minutes, the dog was safely out and reunited with the other lab.

Both dogs were taken to the animal shelter since their owners could not be located. These doggies have definitely had a ruff day, and we are hoping their humans see this post and bring them home soon so they can rest up after their big adventure.

We are grateful for well trained first responders and the equipment that keeps them prepared when emergencies happen. We hope we never need it, but it sure is comforting to know it is there when it we do.

Salem Fire Department sent four firefighters to take part in 2026 Winter Fire School. Thank you, Utah Fire and Rescue Academy for helping our department and so many others train and prepare to serve our communities. Well done!

The fire department recognizes Chief James' remarkable service and commitment. As chief of police and the chief public safety officer that both fire and EMS report to, he's been instrumental in building Salem's fire and EMS capabilities. His leadership and guidance will be deeply missed.

One of our favorite activities is showcasing our fire station. This week, we had the Loafer View Young Women visit and gave them a hands-on experience with gear, hoses, and water. We turned it into a fun competition between groups. Great job, ladies! Thanks for stopping by!
