On our summer road trip we stopped at Columbia Gorge Community College library. We met the new director and explored their creative space filled with zines and supplies for students to make their own. The campus view on our way out was incredible!

Back to School with Free Books! Any Oregonian with a qualifying print disability, including dyslexia, is eligible to enroll to get free digital audio, large print, and Braille books through the Oregon Talking Book and Braille Library. There is no minimum age to enroll, we have books for all ages and reading levels, and membership lasts a lifetime. Applications can be certified by educators, school staff, dyslexia specialists, or medical providers, and no IEP or 504 plans, medical records, nor insurance information are required. 🎧📖🍎

September is Library Card Sign Up month. Go check out your local library if not for the endless books, then for all the other services and programs available.

From books to libraries of things to Wi-Fi and so much more local libraries are a wealth of services and information to support their communities.

In Multnomah County, we explored the amazing libraries at National University of Natural Medicine and University of Western States. Tailored for medical and natural health research, these libraries feature quiet spaces designed for deep focus and unique collections like hands-on anatomical models and bone kits available for study and checkout.

On our summer road trip, we visited three branches of the Lake County Libraries (Oregon). In Lakeview we enjoyed the light-filled space and met a four-legged visitor out front. In Paisley we joined kids for crafts and stories. And in Christmas Valley we toured the temporary location where the library waits while a new space is being developed. The kind and dedicated staff in Lake county do so much to help their community and bring people together!

Like so many others the State Library of Oregon is deeply saddened by the news of Dolly Parton's passing! A champion for children's literacy her legacy lives on in all the sparkle she brought to the world.

The Library is devastated to learn of the passing of Dolly Parton, not only a talented musician, but also a true titan of children's literacy. Her Imagination Library has received multiple Library of Congress Literacy Awards and, in 2018, Dolly visited us to donate the program’s 100 millionth book to our collection. She even hosted story time. 🦋❤️

Our summer road trip next took us to the Hood River County Library District. It was a great chance to admire their growing "Library of Things." It has everything from kitchen tools to learning kits and games!
