Last week’s open house was a blast! We welcomed library staff from all over Oregon for an afternoon of connecting, exploring, and reminiscing. From lively conversations and behind the scenes tours to the nostalgia of flipping through our card index, the day was filled with energy and curiosity. Thanks to everyone who joined us!

We got a beautiful new donor board!

It's been over a year since we realized our donors had nearly filled up our original donor board, an exciting problem to have.

Thank you to all the people who made this wall possible: our generous donors! They believed in Talking Books' value, and their commitment to that value spurred us to action, starting the whole process of establishing the endowment fund. Many of them gave throughout their lives, and then made large, one-time bequests from their estates that are now their annual gift forever! We are thrilled to give them a beautiful way of recognizing their ongoing partnership with Talking Books.

Last week we joined library workers from across Oregon and the Pacific Northwest "getting loud for libraries" at the joint Oregon Library Association (OLA) / Pacific Northwest Library Association (PNLA) conference. From Keynote Mychal Threets to neon dinners, meeting people at our booth, and awards we had a great time.

The third image is of Tiff and Jen at the Talking Book and Braille Library conference table. The fourth image is of Natalie from Government Services and Buzzy from Library Support.

It's National Library Week!

Millions of people visit their libraries every week—and for good reason. During National Library Week, April 19–25, take time to discover what brings you joy at your library. Visit your library and bring friends and family along; encourage a friend to get a library card and discover the opportunities it unlocks; browse the shelves, join a book club, attend a program or storytime, or get started on your next creative project in a makerspace.

National Library Week is filled with opportunities to celebrate our libraries and take action to keep them strong. Join in on one (or all!) of the various commemoration days:

Monday, 4/20: Right to Read Day - we're calling on library lovers and advocates to celebrate wins against censorship efforts and to take action to defend the freedom to read. On Right to Read Day, ALA will release the State of America's Libraries Report, including the list of the Top 10 Most Challenged Books of 2025.

Tuesday, 4/21: National Library Workers Day - take time to honor and thank the library workers at your library for all they do to impact your community.

Wednesday, 4/22: National Library Outreach Day - a day to celebrate libraries meeting people where they are. Look for your library out in your community - in the bookmobile, at a local pop-up, at schools or assisted living facilities, or wherever!

Thursday, 4/23: Take Action For Libraries Day - this year, we're asking YOU to show up for our libraries and take action against legislative censorship attempts by contacting Congress.

Stay tuned for posts throughout the week and more ways to get involved, and be sure to visit your library and ilovelibraries.org and celebrate your library.

📣During , Dr. Charlene Williams (Deputy Superintendent, Oregon Department of Education) shared, “School libraries and their staff are a crucial component of our focus on literacy as a place where students can learn crucial reading skills and then open their minds to new worlds within the pages of each book. I can’t thank our librarians enough for the work they do each and every day to help our scholars learn to read and then read to learn.” 📣We couldn’t agree more! 📚❤️📚
