UPDATE…

We wanted to reach out to all of the honorees and families involved with Salem Ohio Military Flags. We cannot wait to see all of the flags displayed throughout downtown Salem, and so far they look amazing!

We have also received several questions regarding the exact locations of specific flags. We are unable to provide a map of all flag locations since the some flags will be taken down for Christmas decorations.
We do encourage everyone, if able, to take a drive or walk through our beautiful downtown to view all of the honorees. You may come across your loved one’s flag as well as many others you know throughout the community.

Please note, our drop-off locations, including the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, Berkshire Hathaway, and Salem AMVETS Post 45, and Salem VFW do not have control over the installation schedule or completion date. PLEASE do not call and ask those locations about the flags.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and support of this meaningful community project. As soon as we are notified that the balance of the flags are going up, we will post here to let you know!

Many people are familiar with the Blue Star and Gold Star traditions, but questions sometimes arise about the meaning and history behind MILITARY FAMILY BANNERS. 🇺🇸

💙 **Blue Star Service Banner**

The Blue Star Service Banner tradition began during World War I. It represents a family with a loved one CURRENTLY serving in the Armed Forces. 💙

💛 **Gold Star Service Banner**

When a service member dies while serving our nation, the blue star is traditionally replaced with a gold star.
Gold Star Families have long been recognized as families who have experienced the loss of a loved one during military service. 💛

💚 **Green Star Families®**
Green Star Families of America was created to bring visibility, education, and recognition to the families left behind after a veteran dies by su***de. These families were deeply impacted by veteran su***de whose experiences often remain unseen.
Support for H.R. 6022, the Green Star Veterans Service Act, seeks formal recognition of these families and their sacrifices. 💚

The last order of Veteran flags has arrived! 🇺🇸

We have not yet been given an exact date or time for the flags to be placed around town. As soon as we receive confirmation that the flags are going up, we will be sure to let everyone know! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Over a year ago, Zach Baker and I began working on this military project. We worked countless hours and are thrilled to see the flags going up throughout the city! 🇺🇸

We will begin taking applications again starting next fall (2027). Those flags will go up in the city in the Spring of 2028!
