Community Action Partnership of Oregon

Community Action Partnership of Oregon The vast majority of these agencies are Community Action Agencies (CAAs) created through the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964.

Our mission: To magnify the impact of Community Action to serve low-income Oregonians by advocating for resources with a unified voice, strengthening partnerships, and building capacity. Community Action Partnership of Oregon (CAPO) is the State Association for Oregon’s Community Action network of 17 Community Action Agencies and Oregon Human Development Corporation, a statewide agency serving far

mworkers. CAPO and its members are part of the national Community Action Network – a network made up of more than 1,100 local, private, non-profit, and public agencies that work to alleviate and eliminate poverty. CAAs were the first social service agencies to involve lower-income people as members of their Boards of Directors to help set policies, design programs and evaluate services intended to reduce or eliminate the causes and conditions of poverty. Each CAA uses a community-based needs assessment to develop advocacy and service priorities to provide the most relevant, most effective services for its own community. Located in the areas of greatest need, local CAAs offer an extremely wide variety of programs that serve low-income children, families, and seniors. This community-based approach, in conjunction with the statewide network of CAPO members and resources, creates a unique and effective system for fighting poverty in Oregon.

Homelessness is a systemic failure, not a personal problem.

“A 75-year-old man with no criminal history and no addiction worked his entire life and is now living without housing because his fixed income cannot compete with today’s rents.”

“A significant number of people became homeless not because they failed, but because the housing market moved faster than they could keep up with and there were no protections for the way they lost their housing.”

“Reporting has directly tied rising housing costs and population growth in Central Oregon to increases in people living in vehicles, campers, and encampments.”

There is a lot of talk about homelessness in political campaigns right now. I would like to share what I see every day from my own work in the field. […]

🏡 During Community Action Month, we’re proud to recognize the 𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺: A specialized staff dedicated to helping individuals and families not only find housing, but keep it successfully!

The Housing Retention team understands that what may seem routine to some can be completely new to others. Our housing stabilization services focus on setting personal and/or household goals, identifying income sources, budgeting, paying bills, and engagement to the local resources each participant needs, in order to be successful in achieving self-sufficiency.

Behind the scenes, the team performs administrative work to help qualifying households with security deposits and eviction prevention. Due to our community's overwhelming need, this team capably handles a waitlist for services and serves participants with compassion and care. Their work is a vital part of our mission: making sure people in our community stay housed.
