Day #5 of our Artist and vendor spotlights:
Is Patty Burmeister

What type of art do I enjoy:
I primarily paint in watercolor, but I also am painting in acrylics and egg tempra.
I enjoy painting pet portraits. Clients send me a picture, and I use the photograph to paint a portrait of their beloved pet. I enjoy the whole process of it I am honored to be a part of it. Many times, it is a surprise gift to another family member. You can tell there is so much love that the pet brought to the family.
I paint in Plein Air, meaning, painting outdoors in the open air. It is a welcomed change from studio painting. The light changes quickly, so decisions have to be made about lighting and colors.
I am learning to "write" icons. Iconography is an important part of Christian Orthodoxy, I am a Christian Orthodox attending Annunciation Church in St. James. I lead Plein Air Day, twice a year for the church and anyone interested in attending
The next one is on October 3rd. Registration is online at annunciationoca.org/en-plein-air.

I am learning so much, and am enjoying learnning a whole new process.
This year I painted my first mural. It was a great learning experience. I enjoyed the comradorie with the other muralists. It is located in Rolla, in front of the Sirloin Stockade Restaurant, with the theme of celebration Route 66.

Name of business:
Patty's Pet Portaits on FB

How did I get interested in art?
I have always enjoyed art. Even as a toddler when I did my first mural with a black marker on the living room wallpaper!

Why do I like art?
I love art because I think God gave this special interest/ talent to me. It really is such a calm space for me to enter. It brings me joy, and I lose myself in it.
Oftentimes, I will lose track of time, and it will be dark, or my hands shake because I have forgotten to eat!
Why do I like the Salem Community?
I love the Salem Community because I feel right at home here. I can be myself, and I see others being authentically themselves. People care about one another and help when others need help. It is appropriately named, Salem, meaning Shalom, or Peace, in more ways than one.
