⚠️ SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM POSSIBLE SATURDAY-SUNDAY ⚠️

Along and south of I-64, a somewhat significant snowfall event remains on the table. With lots of cold air to work with, snowfall ratios will be quite high. Potentially as high as 25:1. This means that it will be able to pile up fast. The big question is the track of the system, and the strength of the high pressure system to the north. If the track shifts north, and the high pressure is weaker then we could be looking at somewhat significant snowfall amounts. Better chances the further south you are in the area regardless. If you’re along I-70 chances are low. If you’re along the Ohio River chances are fairly high. Details like totals and exact location won’t be known until Wednesday night or Thursday. Stay tuned!

Scattered showers are expected to develop across northeast Missouri and west central Illinois this afternoon and spread southeast into this evening. Precipitation is expected to initially be rain, but turn to snow as an Arctic cold front moves southeast through the area along with the showers. Widespread impacts to travel are not expected. However, there may be brief bursts of heavier snow with gusty winds in these showers resulting in reduced visibilities, isolated accumulations up to ½ inch, and slick spots on area roads.

An arctic front will bring a round of mainly light snow with brief pockets of moderate snowfall at times. These pockets of relatively heavier snowfall will lead to visibility around 1/2 mile and quick, minor accumulations around 1/2" in affected locations. Travel may become slick in heavier snowfall, especially on bridges, overpasses, and other elevated surfaces.
