A rotting wooden ramp, sidewalks that were too small to fit his power chair and struggling to safely leave his home are some of the many reasons why Richard was seeking options to install a new mobility ramp for his home.

“I got caught when the wheels went off a couple of times, and they wouldn’t come back on,” Richard said. “So I would be stuck until somebody could help me.”

As a disabled veteran living on a fixed income, Richard struggled to find ramp options that were affordable for him, keeping him in an unsafe position to leave his home.

After getting in contact with Habitat’s Repair Program, Richard had a new mobility ramp and widened sidewalks within 4 days.

Our Repair Program focuses on partnering with low-income homeowners to address critical home repairs such as siding, roofing and mobility modifications, allowing homeowners to safely age in place.

We also want to give a huge thank you to Willamette Health Council for supporting this project, and helping us partner with more homeowners for critical home repairs to create a world where everyone has a safe place to call home. 💙

This past Monday, Habitat staff, supporters, and community members came together at the Salem Housing Authority Commissioners Meeting to advocate for a partnership that will transform publicly owned homes into affordable homeownership opportunities for local families.

We’re excited to celebrate a big step forward! The Commissioners approved the sale of the first 9 homes to Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Willamette Valley. These homes will be rehabilitated and sold through our Homeownership Program, empowering working families to achieve the dream of owning a home.

Thank you to everyone who submitted letters, attended the meeting, shared public comment, and stood alongside us. Your voices and support helped make this milestone possible!

Together with the Salem Housing Authority, community partners and supporters, we’re creating new pathways to affordable homeownership for families in Salem and Keizer. There is still work ahead, but we’re excited about what’s next!

Last night, our team had the opportunity to attend the Salem Housing Authority Board of Commissioners meeting to advocate for something we believe every family deserves — a safe, stable, and affordable place to call home.

We shared our support for expanding affordable homeownership opportunities through a partnership that would allow Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Willamette Valley to rehabilitate publicly owned homes and create more pathways to homeownership for local working families.

Affordable homeownership changes lives. It provides stability for children and allows families to build equity and invest in their future.

We’re grateful to everyone who attended, shared their stories, and spoke in support of this vision. Together, we’re working toward a future where more families in our community have the opportunity to achieve the dream of homeownership.💙

This past weekend, we celebrated something truly special — a home dedication.

After months of hard work, partnership, and perseverance, another local family received the keys to a safe, stable, and affordable place to call home. This milestone represents more than a house; it represents opportunity, security, and a foundation for the future.

We’re grateful to the volunteers, donors, sponsors, and community partners who helped make this dream a reality. Together, we’re building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.
