DHS Legal Technician

The DHS Legal Technician performs specialized case management, investigative, legal support, and financial activities for the Child Support Services division. The position locates noncustodial parents and assets; assists with establishing paternity and child support and medical support obligations; reviews cases and court orders for potential modification or enforcement; and supports the collection of current and past-due child support. The Legal Technician prepares legal documents and correspondence, performs support calculations and account reconciliations, maintains accurate case records, and coordinates with clients, courts, attorneys, employers, and governmental and community agencies to resolve cases and ensure timely case processing. May need to drive for court, training, state meetings and to other County facilities.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, with an hourly wage of $26.03 to $32.53, DOQ. As of Friday, August 21 at 6:00am, Chaffee County is now under a STAGE 1 Fire Ban. This includes unincorporated county and municipalities of Buena Vista, Salida, and Poncha Springs.

Sheriff Andy Rohrich is moving Chaffee County from Stage 2 Fire Restrictions to Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in coordination with U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), who are also now both at Stage 1 level restrictions.

Though fire conditions have improved across much of the state, wildfire danger remains high, and all are asked to continue taking extreme caution with any activities that could create a spark.

🚫 Prohibited Activities
• Open burning of any kind
• Campfires or outdoor files that are NOT within a permanent fire structure such as a permanently installed metal fire grate
• Use of personal fireworks
• Use of explosive targets and/or model rockets

✅ Allowable Activities
• Fires in permanent fire structures, such as fireplace or metal fire grate (a rock ring is NOT an approved fire grate)
• Portable LP stoves and laterns
• Charcoal grills at private residences
