Memorial Day can hold many emotions: gratitude, grief, reflection, and remembrance. Here at Full Circle Restorative Justice, we believe making space for those emotions matters.

Wishing our community a safe and meaningful Memorial Day. 🇺🇸

One of the simplest ways we can build connection is by noticing what helps people feel cared for 🤗 But not everyone needs the same kind of support.

Some people feel cared for when someone checks in.
Some people feel cared for when they are given space.
Some people feel cared for when someone remembers the details.
Some people feel cared for when they are listened to without being rushed.

This week’s Circle Question 🌟 What is one small thing that makes you feel cared for?

Your answer might be small, ordinary, or oddly specific. Anything counts--Let us know in the comments!

Listening helps people feel heard, supported, and less alone.

Who is helping people feel supported in our community? Let us know! Tag a local mental health resource, youth organization, community group, school support, nonprofit, or everyday helper in the comments.

There's a difference between listening to respond and listening to understand 👂

Restorative practices don't ask us to be perfect listeners--they invite us to slow down and notice impact before jumping straight to fixing, defending, or dismissing.

Tiny pause = big difference! 🌟

Community Partner Spotlight 🌟 Kindred Kids Child Advocacy Center

Kindred Kids CAC serves children who have experienced sexual or physical abuse by offering coordinated, trauma-informed victim services in a safe, child-friendly environment. Their center brings support together in one place, including forensic interviews, medical exams, advocacy services, and collaboration with law enforcement and the Department of Human Services.

Since 2018, their work has helped children feel heard, supported, and protected during some of the hardest moments a family can face. FCRJ is incredibly grateful for Kindred Kids and the vital role they play in building safer, healthier communities for children and families!

Restorative conversations do not start with “Okay everyone, be vulnerable immediately!” They start with preparation. 🧐

Before a hard conversation, remember to:
1. Pause and take a breath
2. Get clear on what happened
3. Think about what repair could look like, together

Preparation gives people a better chance to listen, speak clearly, and stay connected. That is where restorative practices begin: not with a perfect script, but with enough safety and courage to speak your truth. 🌟

Hard conversations are unavoidable and tend to go smoother when people feel heard, not hurried. 🏃💨

This week's Circle Question: What helps you feel truly heard during a hard conversation?

Maybe it's eye contact. Maybe it's someone not interrupting. Maybe it's when a person listens to understand instead of listening like they're loading their next argument in a tiny emotional cannon. 🙃
