🚫🔥🚫🔥STAGE 2 FIRE RESTRICTIONS🚫🔥🚫🔥

Please remember we are still in Stage 2 Fire Restrictions in Chaffee County, including within the limits of Salida, Buena Vista, and Poncha Springs. Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is also now under Stage 2 Restrictions, and Federal Forest Service (USFS) will be moving to Stage 2 Fire Restrictions tomorrow, June 30, at 12:01am.

This will officially mean NO CAMPFIRES and NO FIREWORKS are allowed anywhere in Chaffee County. None, anywhere. Conditions are too dry, hot, and windy to take risks within our beautiful county. If you can't turn it off with a switch, you shouldn't be using it. This includes grills and outdoor fireplaces, etc.

Please call the Sheriff's non-emergency dispatch line at 719-539-2596 if you see any violations of the fire ban, regardless if it is on private, county, or federal land. Chaffee County Sheriff's Office will do its best to help federal law enforcement enforce their restrictions as well. Fines of $750 will be issued for violations of the Sheriff's Fire Restriction order.

Unincorporated Chaffee County is under stage 2 fire restrictions. These restrictions will also include the municipalities of Buena Vista and Poncha Springs. If you live in the city limits of Buena Vista, Poncha Springs or on private property in the unincorporated county the restrictions will apply and will be enforced.

🚩🚩 U.S. Forest Service - PSICC National Forest 🚩🚩

Stage 2 fire restrictions are in effect for the Pike and San-Isabel National Forests from June 30, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. to August 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m., unless rescinded.

This includes the South Platte, South Park, Pikes Peak, San Carlos, Leadville and Salida Ranger Districts.

Afternoon Update 06/24/26:
Chaffee County is experiencing higher levels of Air Pollution this afternoon due to the wildfires.
Some members of the general public may experience health effects with 24 hours of exposure; members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects.

Smoke from several fires burning in Utah and Nevada is being transported into Colorado and is expected to impact air quality through at least Thursday morning. Smoke levels could increase or decrease rapidly at times during the advisory period due to the very unstable atmospheric conditions.
The AIR QUALITY INDEX reports the daily level of air pollution on an hourly basis. The index reports the highest level of either carbon monoxide, fine particulates or ozone depending on which pollutant has the greatest hourly concentration. Values greater than 100 for carbon monoxide, fine particulates and ozone indicate exceedances of the pollutant's state and federal standards. Air Quality Index values between 0-50 are good, 51-100 moderate, 101-150 unhealthy for sensitive groups, 151-200 unhealthy, 201-300 very unhealthy, and over 300 hazardous.
