Tomorrow, the Salina City Commission will decide whether or not to renew a 3-year, $198,000 contract with Flock Security for its network of automatic license plate readers throughout town. Flock cameras violate Salinans’ privacy and create opportunities for profiling and abuse. We’re asking all Salinans who value personal liberty and due process to write the Commission or speak out at their June 1 meeting: say NO to Flock!

We will have a guest speaker, Lauren Reinhold! She is running for the U.S. House of Representatives to represent Kansas' 1st Congressional District.

With ICE activity increasing in our community, DSA Salina is hosting a Know-Your-Rights and Rapid Response training.

This training will cover effective tactics for safely practicing your constitutionally protected rights to observe, record, and report ICE activity in your area. It will also connect you with local organizers who can put you to work protecting your neighbors through coordinated rapid response networks.

This event is open to members and non-members, but all participants must register to attend. It is recommended but not required that attendees attend a Know-Your-Rights training prior to this event.

Come celebrate local labor with DSA!

This Sunday, May 3, DSA Salina is hosting our annual celebration of labor at Campbell Plaza in Downtown Salina. Starting at noon, the event will feature guest speaker Nick Levendofsky of the Kansas Farmers Union, as well as performances by Corey Bell and House of Artifacts. Enjoy a day of music, games, and good company in honor of the hard work that makes our community possible!

Prior to 2025, only two Kansas counties participated in the 287(g) program, which partners local law enforcement agencies with ICE. Under the new Trump Administration, that number has grown to 29 agencies, including county sheriff's offices, municipal police departments, and the KBI.

This month, three new agencies have chosen to work more closely with ICE. Trego County Sheriff's Office and Cherryvale Police Department are now broadly deputized to act as ICE in their jurisdictions, while sheriff's deputies in Logan County are empowered to execute ICE warrants in the county jail.

Thanks to volunteers from our Chapter and the wider community, our clean-up of Thomas Park was a great success!

We managed to remove four truckbeds' worth of waste from the park grounds and nearby creek beds, including 24 discarded tires. Huge shout-outs to North Salina Community Development - NSCD and Kansas Wesleyan University for your hard work and support, as well as City of Salina, KS Government for its Free Landfill Day!

When we come together, Salinans are willing and able to take charge and maintain the clean, welcoming, public spaces our community deserves.
