Through their professionalism, discipline, and commitment to service, our cadets proudly represented Civil Air Patrol and the values we strive to instill in future leaders.

The 18th Training Group is accepting senior member applicants for the 2026-2027 Kansas Wing Winter Encampment. Slots are open in all staff directorates. Please apply through Registration Zone and fill out the application supplement (see link below) to choose your preferred positions. You must register for the senior staff sub-event and fill out the form to be considered for a slot. Slots will be filled on a rolling basis until full.

Today cadets from the Lawrence Composite Squadron completed Orientation flights. CAP Cadets can complete 5 flights. Each flight builds on the previous and introduces Cadets to how an aicraft operates and flies. During each flight Cadets do get to apply each introduction with actual hands on experience flying the aircraft.

On Tuesday, May 19 New Century Composite Squadron held its annual change of command
ceremony. Cadet 1st Lt Karson Lawrence assumed command of the squadron from Cadet
Capt. Gray after a very successful year of growth and learning. As C/1st Lt Lawrence said in a
brief speech given to his squadron, he plans to prioritize cadets and their individual growth as
he steps into these big shoes left for him as Cadet commander. We are very grateful to C/Capt
Gray for her time serving this squadron and can't wait to see where C/1st Lt Lawrence leads it.

At this month’s Kansas Wing Civil Air Patrol Commander’s Call, excellence and service across the wing were recognized.

Capt Smith, Lt Col Crocket, and Maj St. John were each awarded the Commander’s Commendation Award for their outstanding service, dedication, and commitment to mission success.

Lt Col Phillips and 1st Lt Phillis received Certificates of Appreciation for their efforts supporting aviation recruiting initiatives—directly contributing to the growth and future of Civil Air Patrol.

Commander’s Call continues to serve as a platform to communicate priorities, strengthen alignment, and recognize those who go above and beyond in service to the mission.

Heartland Squadron 055 celebrates outstanding cadet achievement.

Cadet Lt Straight has earned the Billy Mitchell Award, a milestone recognizing leadership, aerospace knowledge, and commitment to the program. This award is the second major milestone in the cadet program.

Cadet SSgt Smoke and Cadet SSgt Mares have also achieved this distinction, demonstrating discipline and dedication. By earning the first cadet mile stone award named after the Wright brothers.

Last week members of the Kansas CAP participated in CAP National Legislative Day in Washington DC. NLD is when members from all Wings come and visit their members on the Hill. We meet with all six representative and or their Staff during the visit.
