SALINA, Kan. — The Saline County Republican Party will hold a convention onThursday, September 10, 2026, at 7 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott located at 3020 Riffle Drive, Salina, Kansas to select a replacement for the position of State Representative for District 69 following the withdrawal of Clarke Sanders from the
November 2026 General Election Ballot. Representative Sanders notified the party of his withdrawal from the November Election on September 2, 2026, citing health issues.

Sanders also signaled his intention to finish his current term ending in January.

Under party rules and Kansas state statute, only duly elected precinct committeemen and committeewomen that reside in State Representative District 69, elected on August 4th, 2026 from Saline County are eligible electors to vote during the convention to fill
Sanders unexpired term. Interested candidates should contact County Chair Brenda Smith at 785-822-5794 no later than Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Candidates will have an opportunity to speak at the Thursday, September 10th convention prior to the vote. “Selecting a State Representative to fill a vacancy is a significant responsibility for our
precinct committee members. The party is grateful for the years of service Clarke Sanders has given our community” Chair Brenda Smith noted.

“Filling a vacancy in the Kansas House of Representatives is an important responsibility,” said Vice Chair Anthony Newell. “The precinct committee members participating in this process are entrusted with selecting a qualified, principled representative who understands the needs of our communities and will serve Saline
County faithfully in Topeka. Their informed votes help ensure local voices continue to have strong representation in state government.”

YOUR VOICE; YOUR POWER

Salina has a great opportunity to showcase our Democratic Party. You can help by getting registered and letting your friends know about Saturday's Demofest event. In today's media age, everyone can send an email or post a message on social media if they have one. Here is what's happening Saturday:

More than 15 state and federal Democratic candidates are scheduled to gather in Salina this Saturday, July 11, for Demofest. The event will run from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at The Temple, located at 336 S. Santa Fe.

Saline County Democratic Chairperson Sandy Beverly announced that the event is designed to give voters direct access to both the candidates and vital party advocacy groups. Each contender will deliver a brief five-minute address before moving to designated tables to meet informally with citizens and answer individual questions.

The high-profile attendee list features gubernatorial candidates Cindy Holscher, Ethon Corson (represented by Renee Duxler), and Carl Skoog. U.S. Senate candidates in attendance will include Adam Hamilton, Noah Taylor, Erik Murray, Kevin Latz, Hart for Senate, and Sandy for Kansas. Congressional hopefuls Colin McRoberts and Lauren Reinhold are also scheduled to speak. Down-ballot candidates include Juan Luengo for State Treasurer, Jen Day and Sam Lane for Secretary of State, and Dinah Sykes for Insurance Commissioner.

In addition to the candidate speeches, the Democratic Women, Young Democrats, Food and Farm Caucus and other groups will host interactive tables. Representatives will be available to discuss critical community initiatives, agricultural policies, and ways for local voters to get involved.

Demofest is free and open to the public. Refreshments, including hot dogs, popcorn, and drinks, will be available. While admission is free, organizers encourage attendees to RSVP in advance at kansasdems.org/democracyfest.

Friends and fellow Democrats,

We hope you’ll join us for our Monthly Last Tuesday Event & Potluck on Tuesday, June 30 at 6:30 PM at The Temple, 336 S. Santa Fe (enter through the Red Door).

Our featured guest speaker will be Judge Trish Rose, District Judge for the 27th Judicial District and former Mayor of Hutchinson. This is a community potluck, so bring a dish to share. Candidates will have time to speak, and campaign signs and materials are encouraged.

If you can lend a hand with setup, please arrive at 6:00 PM — we need and always appreciate the help!

Let’s come together for good food, good conversation, and civic engagement that strengthens our community.
