Constitutional attorneys have argued both sides of the legality of requiring presidential candidates to supply their tax returns to be on the ballot for the primary. Some say states are within their rights as long as requirements don’t discriminate based on wealth or ideology. Be interesting to see how this shakes down. Gotta Love California for trying!

Trump or any other White House hopeful who refuses to disclose their tax returns can't run in California's primary in 2020 under the law signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

HRC is getting innovative and hosting our first Roommate Mingler! The idea is that individuals and families who cannot afford to rent on their own can pick out their own roommates, pooling resources to be able to afford housing, on limited incomes.

Our next Roommate Mingler is being held Thursday, August 24th from 1-2 PM. We're hoping more individuals and families are able to secure housing by meeting at these events!

We would like to thank Starbucks at 2160 California Ave in Sand City, Starbucks at 150 Main St in Salinas, Safeway in the Harden Ranch Plaza and the Bagel Corner at 818 Park Row in Salinas. Without these generous donations, this event wouldn't have the festive feel we need!

We keep talking about "coordinated entry" and "CARS" or "VI-SPDAT" but what does it mean?

CARS (Coordinated Assessment & Referral System) is the name for Monterey-San Benito's coordinated entry system. The coordinated entry system is a method of assessing needs of individuals and families at risk of or experiencing homelessness and matching them with agencies/programs/services that have capacity to stabilize an individual or family's housing crisis.

The VI-SPDAT is the tool that our community has chosen to use to assess an individual or family's needs, related to their housing crisis.

HRC is proud to be a participant in coordinated entry because we know that this system works, instead of having to call every agency, every day, people in crisis can access the system at multiple points and be connected to needed services.

Read more about HUD's reason for requiring a coordinated entry system (https://www.hudexchange.info/resources/documents/Coordinated-Entry-Policy-Brief.pdf) or specifically about coordinated entry in Monterey and San Benito Counties (http://www.chspmontereycounty.org/cars/coordinated-entry/).

Rapid Re-Housing is what HRC specializes in, we work with individuals and families, experiencing unsheltered homelessness, to quickly obtain and move in to permanent housing but that's just the start! Once housing is obtained, we provide ongoing case management, in the acquired home, to increase income, build community connection and ensure long term stability. Our goal is to make homelessness brief, rare and non recurring, please consider helping us to achieve this goal!

Thank you! To the Yellow Brick Road Benefit Shop for their grant of $3,500, which will provide emergency assistance and housing for homeless and at-risk seniors in Monterey County. With the winter now upon us, this grant will help put house local seniors who are homeless, keeping them safe and warm. HRC is grateful for your support!
