What Exactly Is an Ombudsman?

An Ombudsman is a state-certified advocate who resolves the problems of residents of nursing homes and residential care facilities for the elderly.
They:
✔️ Investigate complaints
✔️ Advocate for quality care
✔️ Provide confidential support to seniors and families

Ombudsman volunteers often become trusted allies for residents, especially for those who may not have family or additional support nearby.

Navigating Medicare can seem complicated, but understanding your options doesn't have to be.

Join the Alliance on Aging’s Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program (HICAP) for Medicare 101: Learn the A, B, C’s and D’s of Medicare, an in-person presentation designed to help community members better understand their Medicare options.

This free educational session will cover Medicare Part A, Part B, Part C (Medicare Advantage), and Part D prescription drug coverage, as well as supplemental plans, potential penalties, and programs available to assist individuals with limited income.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn how Medicare works, explore their coverage options, and ask questions directly to knowledgeable HICAP counselors.

$2.59 million in refunds returned to Monterey County seniors thanks to an incredible team of volunteers.

Alliance On Aging’s Tax Counseling for the Elderly Program continues to make a meaningful impact for local residents age 60 and older by providing trusted, no-cost tax preparation services in both English and Spanish. This tax season alone, dedicated IRS-certified volunteers prepared 2,365 federal tax returns, generating more than $2.59 million in total refunds for local seniors.

This program is about more than taxes — it’s about dignity, support, guidance, and helping older adults access important financial resources with confidence.

A heartfelt thank you to every volunteer who gave their time, expertise, and compassion to serve our community. Alliance on Aging truly could not do this important work without you.

Entender Medicare puede parecer complicado, pero conocer sus opciones no tiene por qué serlo.

Únase al El Programa de Consejería y Abogacía de Salud (HICAP) de Alliance on Aging para Medicare 101: Aprenda sobre las Partes A, B, C y D de Medicare, una presentación presencial diseñada para ayudar a los miembros de la comunidad a comprender mejor sus opciones de Medicare.

Esta sesión educativa gratuita cubrirá Medicare Parte A, Parte B, Parte C (Medicare Advantage) y la cobertura de medicamentos recetados de la Parte D. También se hablará sobre los planes suplementarios de Medicare, posibles multas por inscripción tardía y programas disponibles para ayudar a personas con ingresos limitados.
