It was a pleasure welcoming students from our sister city, Ichikukushino, Japan, to the City of Salinas! ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿš’

During their visit, the students had the opportunity to tour Salinas Fire Station 1, meet our local firefighters, and learn more about the fire service!

Weโ€™re grateful for these meaningful cultural exchanges that bring our cities and young people closer together! ๐Ÿคโค๏ธ

The Chiefs of the Salinas Fire Department were happy to participate in the Los Padres Elementary School Back-to-School Festivities this morning! It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with students, families, and staff as everyone gets ready for an exciting new school year. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ“š

As students head back to school, here are a few important safety reminders:

๐ŸšŒ Stop for school buses when their red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.

๐Ÿšธ Slow down and stay alert in school zones.

๐Ÿšถ Use designated crosswalks and make eye contact with drivers before crossing.

๐Ÿšฒ Always wear a properly fitted helmet when riding a bicycle, scooter, or skateboard.

๐ŸŽ’ Talk with your children about their safest route to and from school and remind them to stay aware of their surroundings.

We wish all students, teachers, and school staff a safe, successful, and fun-filled school year! ๐ŸŽโœ๏ธ

Congratulations on your well-deserved retirement, Fire Engineer Jon Perkins! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš’

Jon began his service with the City of Salinas on February 10, 2002, and was promoted to Fire Engineer on November 6, 2006. Throughout more than 24 years of his dedicated service, Jon has exemplified the professionalism, commitment, and dedication that defines the Salinas Fire Department.

While being primarily stationed at Station 3 on Abbott Street, he dedicated countless hours to mentoring and coaching probationary firefighters, sharing his knowledge and experience, and helping shape the next generation of Salinas firefighters. However, his contributions extend throughout the department, including his work with the vehicle extrication training cadre program, fire report reviews, and most recently, as a founding member of the drone team where helped build the program, develop training, and support the growth of new pilots.

On behalf of the Salinas Fire Department and the City of Salinas, we extend our deepest gratitude to Engineer Perkins for his more than two decades of faithful service. We wish you a retirement filled with happiness, good health, and many new adventures!๐Ÿš’โค๏ธ๐Ÿ™Œ

The Salinas Fire Department proudly congratulates Firefighters Daniel Higman and Alejandro Quiroz-Arciga on graduating from the South Bay Paramedic Academy Cohort 5 and earning their paramedic certification! ๐Ÿš’๐ŸŽ‰

Over the past year, they demonstrated exceptional commitment by completing an intensive program that included advanced classroom instruction, extensive clinical rotations, field internships, comprehensive skills training, and rigorous examinations.

This special milestone was celebrated alongside Fire Chief Klemek, Deputy Fire Chief Vander Veen, and Doctor Ramos who were honored to attend the graduation ceremony and recognize the hard work and achievement of these two firefighters as they reached this significant career accomplishment.

Our newest firefighter/paramedics are now equipped with the advanced knowledge and skills to provide lifesaving emergency medical care when our community needs it most. Their achievement reflects not only countless hours of hard work and determination, but also a steadfast commitment to serving the residents of Salinas.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighters Daniel Higman and Alejandro Quiroz-Arciga on this outstanding accomplishment. ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ™Œ
