Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley

Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley delivers nutritious meals to homebound seniors. Our name changed in 1998 to reflect our expanded service area.

Our goals are to improve the health and well-being of our clients and help them remain in their homes and maintain their independence. We’re an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that was founded in 1972 and incorporated in 1985 as Meals on Wheels of Salinas. We’ve been delivering meals in Salinas since 1973 and in the rural areas of the Salin

as Valley since 1994. We believe that good nutrition and independent living go hand in hand, and with the help of our caring volunteers and generous donors we make both possible everyday for those who are homebound. Go to our website www.mowsalinas.org for details about our agency and services.

Volunteers and staff came together for a “Roundtable Discussion.” Volunteers were invited to share ideas, suggestions and concerns about our MOWSV programs and procedures as well as any other questions or information that volunteers were curious about. The “Roundtable Discussion” included yummy pizza for all attendees, graciously donated by (to keep the “Roundtable” theme going!) Volunteers shared stories and asked questions of the staff. It was an event that benefitted both volunteers and staff. We thank all the volunteers for giving us more of their treasured time to help us make MOWSV the best program it can be to serve seniors throughout the Salinas Valley! And a huge shout-out and thank you for RoundTable Pizza in Prunedale at 8035 San Miguel Canyon Road. They are a great supporter of MOWSV.

Thank you to Meals on Wheels America for providing us handmade cards “Messages of Love” to deliver to the seniors we serve. The cards were created lovingly by one of the MOWA corporate partners. The hope is to deliver these cards to remind the older adults in our community that they are considered, cared for, and not alone throughout the year. We asked our MOWSV volunteers to take pictures with some of the clients that received the cards with their meal delivery. Lots of smiles!

This morning, the staff at MOWSV said “Thank you” to our summer volunteer, Destiney, a student from Salinas High School about to begin her sophomore year! She goes back to school next week. Destiney spent a few hours each week helping in our warehouse and will truly be missed. Thank you, Destiney!

Seniors at Chispa Housing - Sherwood Village attending the monthly SASSO (SAlinas Seniors SOcial) had a fun afternoon of food and dancing! We thank the staff at CHISPA for their hospitality each month hosting local seniors for a free lunch - today they enjoyed sandwiches and salad provided by a generous donor. All seniors left the event with a box of fresh produce provided by The Food Bank for Monterey County. Franky Soto, Jr. kept many attendees on their feet - up and dancing the afternoon away! The spotlight speaker for the day was Monterey-Salinas Transit. Additional agencies in attendance included: Central Coast VNA & Hospice; Alliance On Aging; Loaves, Fishes & Computers, Inc.; The Blind & Visually Impaired Center; Representative Zoe Lofgren’s field representative and Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley.
