Thank you to everyone who stopped by Risdon Park yesterday to view the new pollinator garden, paint rocks for the tic-tac-toe board with Saline/Milan Rocks , and get shaved ice from Kona Ice. We would also like to thank Washtenaw County Conservation District , Liv's Native Nursery LLC , and girl scout troop 40193 for sharing information about their resources and projects. It was a beautiful day to be outside and enjoy the park!

Don't forget! We are hosting a Risdon Park Celebration Event this Sunday, May 31st, at 1pm. Stop by to see the new, almost in bloom, pollinator garden and enjoy some fun lawn games and rock painting. Kona Ice will also be on-site from 1-2:30!

Interested but unable to attend this weekend? Parks Commission will also be hosting a cleanup at Mill Pond Park on June 9th at 7pm. We will be meeting in the parking lot.

Mill Pond Park is currently under construction while the new Saline River Valley Trail is put in. This trail will improve access to the park and will connect the north end of the park down to Michigan Ave.

While the park is undergoing construction, this is a great opportunity to visit any of Saline's 11 other parks! The Parks Commission is working on a number of projects this year to improve public access and enjoyment of the parks. If you would like to learn more, Parks Commission meetings take place on the third Tuesday of every month at 7pm in the City Council chambers at City Hall.

Activities will include lawn games, rock painting, a native seed handout, and information from local organizations about various resources that can help you plan or manage your garden!

Risdon Park is located at the corner of S. Ann Arbor St. and Pleasant Ridge Drive.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Brecon Park yesterday in honor of Arbor Day and Earth Month. A shagbark hickory (Carya ovata) was planted near the north end of the park. This is a hardy, long-lived species that can grow up to 150 feet tall. The group also replanted the park's flower box and added mulch around playground equipment and the library trail.

Did You Know? Michigan has roughly 75 native species of trees and many can be found at our parks. Do you have a favorite?
