Exceptional day for the Wicomico Public Library system today!! The ribbon cutting for the beautiful new Lewis R. Riley Branch in Parsonsburg was held today. As good as the day is (and will be) for the kids and families who will get to use the library, it had to be even more special for Riley‘s family, who were in attendance today!!

Congratulations to GSC Lifetime Member Jim Perdue on this fantastic profile in Forbes!!

The third generation usually destroys a family business, but Jim Perdue ended up growing his century-old poultry company tenfold by focusing on all-natural premium meats—beyond chicken—and not following the flock.

A major step forward for the Lower Shore and the future of special education services in our region!

Chimes International, Ltd. has announced plans to open The Chimes School Eastern Shore in Salisbury in 2027, bringing much-needed specialized education services closer to home for students with Autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities across the Lower Shore.

GSC, alongside Healthy Minds For Shore and Wicomico County Public Schools, has been working with community partners for years to advocate for expanded mental health and special education resources in our region. This announcement is a major milestone.

“As part of Healthy Minds for Shore, we are thrilled to be a part of this important initiative to expand special education resources to our communities on the Eastern Shore. The Chimes School Eastern Shore will offer a strong foundation for young people of all abilities as they chart their own course into young adulthood.” - Mike Dunn, President & CEO of GSC.

GSC, in partnership with Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce / Salisbury, MD and PACE at Salisbury University, is pleased to share new data with our community on Salisbury’s municipal elections.

This independent study, “City of Salisbury Electoral Reform | An Analysis of Alternative Election Models,” was conducted by graduate students through the Johns Hopkins University Immersion Program. The research compiles local election data and compares Salisbury to peer cities across the region, highlighting both challenges and opportunities within the current process.

Importantly, the students were tasked with presenting data only, without drawing conclusions or making recommendations.

GSC President/CEO Mike Dunn reflects: “I think this study begs the question: is 18% voter turnout good enough, or can and should Salisbury look to do better? I think that’s a question for the City Council, the Salisbury Elections Board, and the citizens to consider. This study provides great comparative data, and now it’s up to the elected officials and the electorate to see if and how this data could help improve voter turnout in Salisbury.”

We invite you to review the findings and be part of the conversation:
