The Government of Ocean City has become known for always choosing the wrong or most unethical option to solve any problem it faces. Whether it is supporting dangerous Data Centers, trying to kill clean energy and jobs, or now trying to bully a church into no longer being able to serve the homeless.

St. Paul's by the Sea Episcopal Church serves between 25 and 35 people overnight and is practicing their protected religious rights while serving the homeless. They are making a difference serving those in need.

Instead of working to reduce homelessness and support those struggling in the community, the town of Ocean City started issuing daily citations and fines to the Church.

Now they have gone so low as to ask a federal judge to stop St. Paul’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church from operating its overnight homeless shelter.

The good news for the church is that Ocean City has a nice long track record of losing in federal court, and we have seen it firsthand as they continue to lose case after case in their failed effort to stop Offshore Wind. We look forward to seeing them lose another court case on this issue as well.

Due to the dangerous air quality across Salisbury and the Eastern Shore, Shore Progress will not be participating in Third Friday tonight as normal.

The region is currently under a Code Red air quality alert, meaning the air is unhealthy for everyone. It is especially dangerous for children, older adults, and people with asthma, heart conditions, or other health concerns.

We love Third Friday and appreciate everything it brings to Downtown Salisbury, but no community event is worth putting residents, vendors, volunteers, and City workers at risk.

We are calling on the City of Salisbury, Maryland to cancel tonight’s event and put public health first.

Please limit your time outdoors, avoid strenuous activity, keep windows and doors closed, and check on elderly neighbors and anyone who may be especially vulnerable.

Stay safe, Delmarva.

11 days. One movement. One Eastern Shore worth fighting for.

Every ticket to our 5th Annual Summer Social helps power the work Shore Progress does every single day.

It helps us knock on doors, train volunteers, endorse candidates who put working families first, organize for better wages, and fight for policies that make life more affordable across Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

This year alone, we’ve endorsed candidates across the Shore committed to building stronger schools, protecting workers, expanding healthcare, and creating an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top.

On July 25, we’re taking a moment to celebrate nine years of organizing while raising the resources needed to finish this election cycle strong.

Join us for an afternoon of great food, local wine, raffles, music, and conversation with friends from across the Shore. We’ll also hear from Congressional candidate Dan Schwartz about the fight ahead.

Activists view the strong turnout as a clear rebuke of the city's current leadership.

"Overwhelmingly, we have come together and agreed that the mayor and city council's decision to take away collective bargaining was the wrong decision," said Jared Schablein, chair of Shore Progress. "I think that's a testament to the support our first responders and city workers have."

Congratulations to Erin Patterson for District 4 on winning the Democratic Primary for Wicomico County Council District 4!

Shore Progress is proud to have endorsed Erin and supported her campaign for County Council.

Erin brings a unique combination of experience, education, and community involvement to this race. A graduate of Salisbury University with degrees in Political Science and Elementary Education, a Master’s in Social Work, training in trauma-informed care, and experience through the Citizens Police Academy, Erin understands the challenges facing families and communities across District 4.

As a former Republican who chose a different path in 2016, Erin’s campaign has shown the power of bringing people together around practical solutions, strong communities, and a government that works for everyday people.

We look forward to helping elect Erin Patterson to the Wicomico County Council this November and continuing the fight for a stronger, more affordable, and more prosperous future for all residents of Wicomico County.

Congratulations, Erin! Onward to November!
