Through a generous donation from ASB we were able to purchase training equipment for the Stop the Bleeding course. This week CCAD returned the favor by teaching that course to their employees. Stop the Bleed is an interactive hands-on course that teaches ways to manage bleeding emergencies. Thanks you ASB!

Chariton County Ambulance recently purchased new ultrasound units for each ambulance. The Mindray Representatives were gracious enough to provide an orientation class for us! These ultrasounds are utilized in many different ways including difficult IV access, FAST exams, Cardiac imaging, and Lung imaging. We are very fortunate to have this equipment and plan to utilize it to provide the best care possible for our patients.

He taught how to recognize the different types of illegal substances that we may encounter in our area and how to safely care for our patients and ourselves. Today the employees got the opportunity to practice Finger Thoracostomies. This is a life saving procedure that is needed when someone has a collapsed lung. Finger thoracostomy “dummies” are very expensive and not very realistic. So instead, we used deer ribs which created a realistic training. A big thank you goes out to Jack and Gaye Heaper Garvin, Matt and Eli Blunk, and Glenn and Bridgett Fessler for the donation of the deer ribs. Another big thank you to Jack and Gaye Garvin for the freezer to keep the ribs in until time for the class. We were also fortunate enough to have our medical director Dr. Stilley present during the training who provided valuable knowledge and feedback.

CCAD had the pleasure of training with the employees at Ray-Carroll County Grain Growers, Inc yesterday. 45 people are now Stop the Bleed certified and received training on burns, hypothermia, and hyperthermia. The District would like to thank Ray-Carroll again for their donation that made it possible to purchase the STB training equipment. Chariton county is fortunate to have local businesses that support the community as well as care about their staff’s health and safety. With the donations received from both Ray-Carroll and AGRIServices of Brunswick the District will be able to offer Stop the Bleed classes to the community.
