🚦 Friendly Reminder: What To Do When Traffic Lights Are Out or Flashing 🚦

As we continue to experience occasional power outages and signal malfunctions, we want to remind everyone how to safely navigate intersections when traffic signals are not operating normally.

🛑 🛑If the traffic signal is completely out (no lights showing):
Treat the intersection as a 4-way stop.
• Come to a complete stop.
• Yield to vehicles that arrived before you.
• If two vehicles arrive at the same time, the vehicle on the right has the right-of-way.
• Proceed only when it is safe to do so.

🔴 🔴 If the traffic signal is flashing red:
Treat it the same as a stop sign.
• Come to a complete stop.
• Yield to other traffic and pedestrians.
• Proceed when it is safe.

🟡 🟡 If the traffic signal is flashing yellow:
• Slow down.
• Proceed through the intersection with caution.
• Be alert for cross traffic, pedestrians, cyclists, and emergency vehicles.

🚦🚦Traffic signal outages and malfunctions can create confusion and increase the risk of crashes. Taking a few extra seconds to slow down, stop when required, and remain alert can help keep everyone safe.

🚓🚒🚑 Stay safe, be patient, and help us keep Rowan County’s roadways safe for everyone.

This past Saturday, we had the privilege of joining Lifeway Church’s Summer Bash and spending time with our amazing community!

With the summer heat in full swing, we were happy to help everyone cool off by spraying 1,000 gallons of the high quality H₂O from one of our fire trucks. There were plenty of smiles, laughter, and memories made as kids, and some adults, enjoyed beating the heat.

A big thank you to Lifeway Church for inviting us to be part of such a wonderful event. We always enjoy opportunities like these to connect with the community we proudly serve.

We can’t wait to see everyone again at the next event!

Today we had some special little visitors at the fire station!

We were honored to welcome a group of children who stopped by as part of their studies on Community Helpers. During their visit, they got a behind-the-scenes tour of the station, explored our fire trucks, learned about the equipment we use to serve our community, and even got to take home some pretty cool firefighter helmets!

A huge thank you to Chief M. Spry and Firefighter W. Gobble for taking the time to talk with the children, answer their questions, and give them a memorable experience.

Fun Fact: Firefighter Gobble is also a full-time teacher with the Rowan-Salisbury School System, making today’s visit extra special as she continues inspiring and educating children both in and out of the classroom!

Thank you to everyone who made today’s visit a success. We love sharing what we do and helping inspire the next generation of community helpers!

🇺🇸Celebrate Safely This Fourth of July Weekend! 🇺🇸

As we celebrate Independence Day with family, friends, and fireworks, remember that safety should always come first. With temperatures expected to be very hot this weekend, it’s important to protect yourself and those around you.

🔥 Fireworks Safety Tips:
• Leave fireworks to the professionals whenever possible.
• Always keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby.
• Never allow young children to handle fireworks.
• Light only one firework at a time and move away quickly.
• Never relight a firework that doesn’t go off.
• Soak all used fireworks in water before throwing them away.
• Be mindful of dry grass and brush—hot fireworks can quickly start a fire.

☀️ Beat the Heat:
💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
🧢 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and a hat when outdoors.
🌳 Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
🚗 Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.
👵 Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone without reliable air conditioning.

Let’s work together to make this holiday weekend safe, fun, and memorable for everyone.

From all of us at the Franklin Township Fire Department, have a safe and Happy Fourth of July! 🇺🇸🚒
