🚦 Friendly Reminder: What To Do When Traffic Lights Are Out or Flashing 🚦
As we continue to experience occasional power outages and signal malfunctions, we want to remind everyone how to safely navigate intersections when traffic signals are not operating normally.
🛑 🛑If the traffic signal is completely out (no lights showing):
Treat the intersection as a 4-way stop.
• Come to a complete stop.
• Yield to vehicles that arrived before you.
• If two vehicles arrive at the same time, the vehicle on the right has the right-of-way.
• Proceed only when it is safe to do so.
🔴 🔴 If the traffic signal is flashing red:
Treat it the same as a stop sign.
• Come to a complete stop.
• Yield to other traffic and pedestrians.
• Proceed when it is safe.
🟡 🟡 If the traffic signal is flashing yellow:
• Slow down.
• Proceed through the intersection with caution.
• Be alert for cross traffic, pedestrians, cyclists, and emergency vehicles.
🚦🚦Traffic signal outages and malfunctions can create confusion and increase the risk of crashes. Taking a few extra seconds to slow down, stop when required, and remain alert can help keep everyone safe.
🚓🚒🚑 Stay safe, be patient, and help us keep Rowan County’s roadways safe for everyone.
