This past Sunday, May 16th, was Armed Forces Day, and today we take a moment to honor and recognize the brave men and women who have served—and continue to serve—in the United States Armed Forces.

At the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, we are proud to have both current and former military members within our ranks. Their dedication to service extends far beyond the uniform, bringing leadership, sacrifice, and a deep commitment to protecting others into everything they do. That continued service strengthens our agency and our community every day.

On Armed Forces Day, we pause to thank all who have answered the call to serve our nation. Thank you for your service.

May K-9 of the Month - Ryder!

Meet K-9 Ryder and his handler, DFC Harding of the Patrol Division! 🐾

K-9 Ryder is a 4-year-old Chocolate Lab with a love for swimming and chasing ducks and geese whenever he gets the chance. When he’s not hard at work, you can usually find him playing with his favorite red Kong ball or a nicely worn-out tennis ball.

Thank you to DFC Harding and K-9 Ryder for their continued service and dedication to the community!

The Office of Sheriff is one of the oldest forms of law enforcement, dating back to 10th Century England before becoming established in Maryland in the 1600s.

Since the creation of Wicomico County in 1867, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office has carried on a long-standing tradition of service, protection, and dedication to our community. From a small agency with only a handful of deputies to the modern full-service law enforcement agency it is today, the office has continued to evolve alongside the community it proudly serves.

Throughout its history, the agency has faced challenges, growth, and sacrifice while remaining committed to protecting the citizens of Wicomico County. In April 2025, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office entered a new chapter by relocating from its longtime home on Naylor Mill Road to its new headquarters on Westwood Drive, continuing its commitment to serving the community for generations to come.

As National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day are observed, we honor not only the deputies who serve today, but also those who came before them and helped shape the legacy of this office through courage, leadership, and dedication. We especially remember the law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and whose service will never be forgotten.

As we reflect on our history, we remain committed to proudly serving our community every day.
