One of the most effective political strategies in America has been convincing parents that LGBTQ+ people are a threat to their children.

West Virginia Republican Delegate Elliott Pritt made that message part of his legislative record. He supported legislation banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors and restricting discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in public schools, both framed as measures to protect children.

On Wednesday, federal agents arrested Pritt and charged him with enticement of a minor.

According to the federal criminal complaint, investigators allege the 36-year-old public school teacher communicated with a 15-year-old girl through Roblox before moving the conversations to Snapchat.

Prosecutors allege he sent sexually explicit photographs, requested n**e images, and arranged multiple sexual encounters with the student.

Pritt now faces a federal charge of enticement of a minor.

Within hours of the arrest, House Speaker Roger Hanshaw removed Pritt from his position as Assistant Majority Leader and called for his resignation.

The allegations have nothing to do with a drag queen, a transgender teenager, bathrooms, LGBTQ books or a gay teacher.

They involve a Republican lawmaker whose public record included a warning that children needed protection from the LGBTQ community when in reality, federal prosecutors allege that it was Pritt exploiting a child.

MAGA Oliver Kennedy, 51, of Pittsville, was sentenced on July 17 in Wicomico County Circuit Court to 35 years behind bars.

According to court documents, Kennedy s*xually abused a child in his household between 2018 and 2023. The victim was younger than 12 at the time of the assaults.

Kennedy was arrested in November 2025 after investigators said he gave the victim alcohol before s*xually abusing her. He remained in custody while awaiting sentencing and faced a maximum possible sentence of 35 years in prison.

Oliver was very vocal on Facebook posting anti LGBTQ anti Socialist rhetoric.

Boys are Boys from

I'M GONNA BE COMPLETELY HONEST.I LEFT WALMART TONIGHT ALMOST IN TEARS.

It wasn't because of a single conflict or an argument. It was the crushing weight of the silence. The store was packed. People were on a mission, heads down, deliberately rushing to get their last-minute groceries. And in that entire time, through the crowded aisles, almost no one would look up. No one touok 5 fu***ng seconds to make eye contact. No one smiled or said "excuse me" when carts crossed paths. It was more of an inconvenience of selective purpose.

It broke my heart because I didn't see malice—I saw profound exhaustion.
Over the last few decades, something has slowly shifted. Right now, people are beaten down. exhausted. We are all feeling the squeeze of grocery prices, gas prices, and just trying to find a way to cope and just survive to get by. We’ve been culturally conditioned to treat public spaces like obstacle courses and our neighbors as nuisances. We are locked in survival mode. Disgusting.

The media wants us to believe the fight is horizontal—Left versus Right, this group versus that group. But what I felt today in that store tells me the real struggle is vertical. It’s Up versus Down.

The "Down" is the crushing weight of isolation, economic stress, and a cultural fog that makes us TOTALLY invisible to each other. The "Up" is our collective humanity. It’s remembering that the person blocking the aisle with their cart has a family they love, a soul they are trying to feed, and burdens they are quietly carrying. We all want the same basic things: to provide for our loved ones, to grow our spirits, and to lay our heads on our pillows at night knowing we are safe in our own backyards. ITS TIME TIME TO LOOK UP WITH POWER.

While my heart will always be rooted in standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, today reminded me of an even larger epiphany: our community is not an island. We are an inseparable thread in the broader fabric of humanity, alongside every ethnicity, age group, and background on the Eastern Shore. True change doesn't trickle down from political grandstanding in state capitals. It rises up when individuals reclaim their inner power, look up from the floor, and choose connection over isolation.

We are drawing a new starting line right here on the Eastern Shore. Together We Thrive is a vehicle for that change, but we cannot build the bridge alone. We need a creative movement that lifts all of us up.

I want to hear from you. Let’s start the conversation right here in the comments:
How are you finding ways to cope through the fog right now?
What is one small thing we can do individually this week to make sure we are serving each other collectively?

Let’s stop surviving in isolation. It’s time to thrive, together.
