United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore (UWLES), has been creating impact in our four county area since 1944, working with community partners to enhance the health, education and financial stability for all neighbors in Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties. UWLES provides direct services, collaborates with stakeholders, and currently partners with 41 local nonprofits to strengthen t

he entire community, impacting 1 in every 3 neighbors every year. UWLES’ Get Connected Volunteer Center connects over 200 nonprofits with community members who want to get involved. Our Mission: United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore harnesses the power of our community to advance health, education, and financial stability. Our Vision: United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore envisions a community where everyone is empowered to reach their full potential.

Wynnette will be joining us as our Community Impact Specialist, working closely with Martin on all things community impact. She will help with community partnerships and partner agencies, running and strengthening our Get Connected Volunteer hub, and coordinating our Dolly Parton Imagination Library collaboration with TidalHealth Smart Start Program enrolling babies at birth.

In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn't read or write. 📖

That idea lives here too. Every month, over 7,000 children across the Lower Eastern Shore find a book in the mailbox- because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all. 🪴

Since 2012, United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore has been the local affiliate of Imagination Library, providing over 620,000 books to over 20,000 local children. Pictured is the first child enrolled in the Imagination Library through our local affiliate in 2012. Dolly may have dreamed of the Imagination Library, but local donors and partners in our community continue to help build it. 🔨

As The Dolly Foundation beautifully put it, "There are more children to reach. More books to send. More families to bring into this wonderful community Dolly created." 📚💡

Thank you for supporting our work and Dolly's legacy. Thank you, Dolly. We will always love you. 💙
