📚🧠 Fun Fact: Reading = Real-Life Simulation

When you read, your brain doesn’t just see words—it experiences them.
👉 Scenes can activate the same parts of your brain as real life
👉 Emotions hit like they’re happening to you
👉 Your brain literally practices being someone else

So technically…
📖 Reading = traveling
📖 Reading = living a thousand lives
📖 Reading = your brain’s favorite workout
✈️ No suitcase required.

New to YA - 📚 Let’s Talk “Young Adult” at Salmon Public Library

Did you know our Young Adult section is organized a little differently? 👀

At Salmon Public Library, our YA collection is categorized based on more mature content, generally intended for older teens and adult readers (18+). While “Young Adult” is often thought of as a teen category, here it functions a bit more like a genre—full of coming-of-age stories, big life moments, and characters navigating that 18–25 stage of life.

And honestly? It’s a great section.

📖 You’ll find:
✨ Emotional, fast-paced reads
✨ Characters figuring out life, identity, and relationships
✨ Stories that stick with you

Readers of all ages enjoy YA (seriously—no age limit on a good book 😉).

👀 For families: Some titles in this section may include more mature themes. We encourage younger readers to explore with guidance and choose what feels appropriate for them.

💬 Do you have a favorite YA read? We’re always looking for recommendations!

Audz moved to Salmon last summer and quickly fell in love with the town, the people, and the beautiful surrounding area. Her passion for reading and libraries started early — in fact, her very first job was shelving books at the Larsen-Sant Library in Preston, Idaho.

Her favorite book is The Chronicles of Narnia, a series she was gifted as one big volume in elementary school. She has read it countless times, still owns that copy, and continues to revisit it every year. If she could travel to any book world, it would be Narnia — for the magic, adventure, and classic fantasy feel.

Audz has a background in children’s libraries and programming, and she is especially excited for the upcoming Summer Reading Program. Children’s librarianship is her dream job, and she is thrilled to bring her love of junior fiction, STEM, creativity, and hands-on learning to the library here in Salmon.

Outside the library, she enjoys sewing, crafting, taking beautiful walks, and watching the skies for sunsets, sunrises, and stars at night. Fun fact: she studied opera in college! She also has one very appropriately named cat: Curiosity.

When it comes to books, picking just one favorite isn’t realistic—so she sticks with favorite authors instead. Her go-to list includes Noelle W. Ihli, Sarah J. Maas, Rick Riordan, Brandon Mull, Natasha Preston, and Darcy Coates, which tells you pretty quickly that her reading taste covers everything from thrillers to fantasy and beyond.

Her favorite genre is thrillers—especially domestic thrillers—but she also loves romantasy, horror, and middle grade fiction. In fact, she served as a judge for the Cybils Awards in 2024 for Middle Grade Fiction, helping recognize books that celebrate diversity and inclusivity.

When she’s not reading (which isn’t often), she enjoys diamond painting and playing video games. She read over 400 books last year and is aiming for 450 this year—fueled in part by her love of ARCs and writing book reviews. One day, she hopes to launch her own Bookstagram or BookTok and fully lean into the book-loving chaos.

If she could step into any fictional world, she’d head straight to Fablehaven—because talking to dragons, trolls, and mythical creatures on a daily basis sounds like a pretty solid life choice.

The library has always been a huge part of her life. She’s been reading since age three and spent much of her childhood at the Salmon Public Library—so working there now feels like a full-circle moment. She’s especially excited to build up teen programming and refresh the YA collection to bring in more current and popular titles for young readers in the community.

At home, life is just as full. She and her husband, James, have been married for 13 years and have three children: Kenideigh and Kjadia (almost 14) and Krysalynn (20). Their household also includes their 12-year-old dog, River, and three goldfish—because clearly, life wasn’t busy enough already.
