***PSA for this upcoming 4th of July, 2026***

As Americans, we all look forward to celebrating our Nation's 250th Birthday and the freedoms we enjoy. Independence Day is a time to gather with family, friends, and neighbors in recognition of the courage and sacrifices that created this great country.

At the same time, Lemhi County's greatest responsibility is protecting the health, safety, and property of its citizens. Our County is home to a large population of senior citizens and other vulnerable residents, and we are surrounded by forests, rangelands, and open spaces that can become extremely susceptible to wildfire during the summer months.

The purpose of the proposed fireworks ordinance is not to discourage celebration, but to remind everyone that airborne fireworks can have unintended and devastating consequences. A single ember carried by the wind can ignite a wildfire that threatens homes, livestock, natural resources, and even lives.

We ask everyone celebrating this historic anniversary to do so responsibly. Please use fireworks only where permitted, keep water and firefighting tools readily available, closely supervise children, and be mindful of weather conditions and surrounding vegetation. Better yet, consider attending a community-sponsored fireworks display where safety precautions are already in place.

By exercising a little extra caution this Independence Day, we can celebrate America's 250th Birthday while protecting the people and natural beauty that make Lemhi County such a special place to call home.

Thank you for helping keep Lemhi County safe, and have a happy and safe Independence Day.

🚨 Public Notice: CodeRED Alert System Update 🚨

The CodeRED Emergency Alert app is now operated by Crisis24.

If you were previously signed up, you may need to re-register your account to keep receiving important emergency alerts. This ensures you stay informed about weather warnings, safety notices, and other critical updates in our area.

👉 Take a moment today to check your registration status and update your information if needed.

Staying connected helps keep you and your family safe. Please share this post so others are aware!

There are two routes to start receiving alerts. You can do either or both:

Account Portal - Online Registration:
Visit your city or county's website to find the sign-up link for your area. Fill out the form with your address, name, phone number(s), and email to sign up quickly and easily. Your information is registered immediately. If you don’t have internet access, consider visiting a library or asking a friend or family member for help.

Mobile App:
Download the CodeRED app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, and register on the app to activate your account. The app isn’t tied to a specific city or county, but it delivers alerts based on your mobile location. Therefore, ensure you enable location sharing. The benefit of the app is that if you happen to be in an area where a CodeRED alert is sent, you will receive the alert notification on your phone even if you aren’t registered for that specific community (which would be via the unique weblink for that community’s Account Portal).
