We know you know, but women are encouraged to take prenatal or multi-vitamins with throughout childbearing years to prevent neural tube defects including . The spinal column closes before most moms realize they are pregnant so starting folic acid supplementation in pregnancy is not as helpful as having it before conception. Too many women aren’t getting the folic acid before pregnancy.
