Check out the latest webinar by Four Corners Wind Resource Center. Understanding the Functions and Benefits of Regional Electricity Markets discusses the functions of and services provided in an “organized” regional electric market, benefits of cooperation and how an organized market can cost-effectively support wind and other renewables. This webinar provides an overview of the two efforts underway to form regional markets in the west – the Western Regional System Operator and the Mountain West Transmission Group. Collectively, these two efforts could affect eight of the 11 states in the Western Interconnection. View the webinar here: http://www.fourcornerswind.org/understanding_the_functions_and_benefits_of_regional_electricity_markets

The majority of utilities in the U.S. participate in organizations that help plan and manage transmission operations and power flows, ensuring that power is available when and where it is needed. These Independent System Operators or Regional Transmission Organizations improve the reliability of th...

Our latest webinar is now available for viewing online here: http://www.fourcornerswind.org/good_citizen

In this webinar, Mark Ahlstrom (Vice President of Renewable Energy Policy, NextEra Energy Resources, Wind Logics) and Jim Caldwell (Lead Project Manager, Low Carbon Grid Study)
discuss how wind energy from our region is a growing, increasingly important source of electricity in the Western energy market that helps keep electric costs low. We explore a future that contains great amounts of wind and look at how wind energy can provide services that are necessary to maintain a reliable electric grid. Best practices that allow for cost-effective integration of ever increasing amounts of wind energy are also reviewed.

What part will wind energy play in our electric future in the region? Will wind energy support a reliable, low cost electric system or does it require special considerations and add costs? Experience shows that wind energy is a good citizen of the grid in the Four Corners states and beyond, providin…

A primer on the Clean Power Plan

The Four Corners Wind Resource Center will provide timely resources on the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Clean Power Plan (CPP) rule in the coming months. New resources will be posted periodically as they become available.

The following resources provide an introduction to the CPP:

This series of short webinars, created by Georgetown Law's Georgetown Climate Center, provides a summary of the final CPP rule: http://www.georgetownclimate.org/clean-power-plan-summary-of-the-final-rule

This decision tree, created by the EPA, shows some of the compliance pathways available to states under the final CPP rule. It is up to states to choose how they will meet the requirements of the rule:http://www2.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2015-08/documents/flow_chart_v6_aug5.pdf

In a recent webinar for state officials, the Georgetown Climate Center provided a summary of EPA’s final Clean Power Plan rule to limit carbon pollution from existing power plants.
