Our Story

Imagine if people around the world only learned about Americans from the news. What would they see? What would they think? Would they trust us?

Conventional wisdom suggests that traditional diplomacy is the most effective way of combating negative stereotypes; however, what if I told you there was a more effective way of creating a more peaceful and prosperous world?

The solution is everyday people, or who we like to call citizen diplomats, embracing the right and responsibility to shape foreign relations one handshake at a time.

Since the 1960s, UCCD has hosted international exchange programs through the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, welcoming over 10,000 global leaders from more than 200 countries to Utah. They have stayed a combined total of more than 100,000 days in Utah, contributing more than $30,000,000 to Utah's economy. That is a lot of citizen diplomacy!
