The community celebrated a new chapter for one of Salt Lake City's most well-known affordable housing communities. Artspace Norbridge Court has undergone a major renovation, preserving 62 affordable two- and three-bedroom homes at 511 W. 200 S. The renovation updated the building while preserving something increasingly important in our growing city: affordable homes that already exist.

The newly renovated homes will remain affordable for households earning between 20 and 80% of area median income, helping ensure residents at a range of incomes can continue to live close to downtown, transit, jobs, and other everyday needs.

The CRA was proud to help support the project and celebrate its completion alongside Artspace and our community partners.

Sears Lake is finally getting a new future.

Intermountain Health’s new urban healthcare campus at the former Sears Block will carry forward more than a century of care while creating room to meet the needs of our growing city. I’m glad to see plans that connect this hospital to the community around it—with public green space, easier access from across Salt Lake City, and most importantly, a home for food trucks and the neighborhood taco carts. 🌮

500 West is missing sidewalks, has inadequate storm drains, failing asphalt, and less shade. This corridor connects the 9-Line to North Temple and several key downtown destinations in Salt Lake City. There are dozens of local businesses here and 3,000 housing units. We need to address these issues and have a new concept plan to improve the area and prepare for growth, prioritizing The Granary District section. If you've been to the Granary District, you know 500 W.

500 West connects several important downtown destinations and is becoming increasingly important as the surrounding area grows. The Granary District section of 500 West, between 900 South and 600 South, will be prioritized for improvements because of its rapid growth, aging infrastructure, and significant need for transportation and public realm improvements.

This project considers the long-term needs of the street, including portions where sidewalks and other pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure are incomplete or inadequate.

The project will also address:

Street and utility infrastructure, including aging infrastructure and planned reconstruction

Transportation safety for people walking, biking, driving, and taking transit

Walking and biking connections to the 9-Line, Folsom Trail, North Temple, downtown, and surrounding neighborhoods

Urban heat and shade, including expanded tree canopy and comfortable places for people to walk and gather

Stormwater and flood management

Parking and access

Long-term growth and development along the corridor

She left the world a better place, from Tennessee to Utah. Dolly once recorded in the building now known as the Art Castle on Salt Lake City’s West Side. But beyond her music and performances, I think many of us adored her sincerity to do something each day that made other people’s lives a little brighter. We can choose to carry on her inspiration in the face of any darkness 🦋

Salt Lake City School District serves about 20,000 students across our community. Their safety is a top priority. Our City's wonderful crossing guards are out and an essential part of enabling that safety during hundreds of thousands of street crossings during this school year!

It's important that families can thrive in Salt Lake City. With many of our kids starting a new school year this week, our YouthCity program has resumed, too! Salt Lake City Government has intentionally invested in affordable programming and high-quality out-of-school care for K-12 youth, which is critical for many working parents who rely on it.

Thank you Salt Lakers for taking the time to help flag issues and submitting service requests this past year. Our Urban Services Team (including our new Clean City Team) was hard at work completing more than 30,000 of your requests. We created a dedicated Clean City Team in 2025 to respond more quickly to keep Salt Lake City cleaner and safer. They remove graffiti in public spaces, clean up trash and waste, and help take care of public areas.

Please be advised that Ida Cotten Park will be closed for improvements starting on August 17. The space is expected to reopen in Spring of 2027.
