AirMed was established in 1978 as the eighth air medical transport program in the nation. We transports trauma, burn, medical, pediatric, neonatal, high-risk OB patients, intra-aortic balloon pump, impella, and ECMO patients to any facility 24 hours a day utilizing six helicopters and two airplanes placed throughout northern Utah and Wyoming. We use the most state-of-the-art equipment available, w

hich includes digital capnography, invasive line management, and intra-aortic balloon pumps, ECMO devices, video laryngoscopes, advanced portable ventilators, and a variety of adjuncts for securing difficult or complex airways. Although aircraft and uniforms have evolved over the years, the mission has stayed the same: “At AirMed we are committed to our mission of delivering the highest quality of care to our patients and will continue to strive for excellence in every aspect of our profession.”

Congratulations to Flight Center Supervisor Jared Droesbeke on 5 Years at AirMed!

Jared comes to AirMed from a fire and EMS background and he still works on a medic ambulance. Working in EMS let him to AirMed, where he started part time before joining the team full time, then becoming the supervisor.

When we asked Jared what he loves about working at airmed, he says “I love the mission of helping people, the incredible team I get to work with every day, and, of course, the helicopters—they're pretty cool too.”

Outside of work, Jared likes to travel with family , compete in paintball tournaments, and enjoy the outdoors.

Congratulations to NICU Flight Nurse Tandy Larson for 5 years at AirMed

Tandy has been a NICU nurse at University of Utah for 16+ years. She has experience in vascular access, charge nursing, and neonatal critical care.

Tandy tells us “I joined AirMed five years ago because I wanted to increase my knowledge and skill set while helping babies and moms wherever they need us. Every transport is an opportunity to make a difference during one of the most stressful moments of a family’s life.”

When asked about what she loves most about this job, here’s what she said: “The people! We have an incredible team that genuinely cares about each other and our patients. I love the challenge of transport medicine, the autonomy it requires, and the opportunity to bring advanced neonatal care to hospitals across the Mountain West. Every day brings something new to learn!”

Outside of work you’ll probably find Tandy planning her next adventure, spending time with her husband, family, and friends, and cheering on her three daughters as they chase their dreams!

35 years of flying! Few air medical careers have been as vast and expansive as Dr Steve Bott’s has been.

He started as a flight paramedic at two different outside programs while attending nursing school. Once he became a nurse, he worked as a Surgical ICU nurse at University of Utah, then an AirMed Flight Nurse.

While flying as a flight nurse, he attended medical school at University of Utah, and then completed an anesthesia residency at University of Utah. In 2013 he became the Assistant Medical Director for University of Utah Airmed, and a Flight Physician in 2017

Dr Bott’s passion for flight medicine is unmatched. It’s clear from working along side him, learning from him at our staff meetings, or case reviews that he loved this job. Has been an incredible resource in both transport critical care and backcountry operations. He trained locally and internationally with rescue crews including Air Zermatt in Switzerland.

We thank you for all your years of service, leadership, and teaching by example.

We wish you a wonderful retirement.

After 19 years as an AirMed flight nurse and 30 years as a Nurse at the University of Utah, we congratulate Mike Darling on his retirement.

Mike has been a powerful force for good in AirMed. Not only did he maintain clinical excellence and take exceptional care of his patients, but Mike was also a leader and mentor, an example for younger flight clinicians.

He ran the AirMed staff newsletter that was always full of insight and celebrations for fellow staff members. We will always remember the impact Mike has had on our organization and we wish him a wonderful retirement.

Congratulations to RiliAnne Williams for achieving her 5 year milestone with AirMed 

RiliAnne began her EMS career in 2011. As a paramedic she obtained her initial 911/critical care experience across Utah and Wyoming. She became a Flight Paramedic for REACH out of Nevada in 2016. Then 5 years ago she landed her dream job with AirMed as a Flight Paramedic. Over these 5 years she obtained her BSN and became a Critical Care Nurse in the University’s Medical ICU. This past fall, she became the first clinician to complete the AirMed Paramedic to RN bridge program, and is now a Flight Nurse for AirMed. 

When asked about what she loves about AirMEd, RiliAnne says she loves “seeing the many ways we all show up for each other and celebrate one another.  This field of work comes full of adrenaline filled days; an impressive scope of practice; and tough calls that stay with you. What has been most fulfilling to me is hope I’ve felt so supported by this team in good days and bad both in my both professional and personal life”

Outside of work, RiliAnne loves hiking, biking, skiing, and camping with her two border collies and husband. She is now embarking on new adventures as she welcomed her first (human) baby at the beginning of this year.

Congratulations to Rey Mora for 10 years of service with University of Utah AirMed. 

Prior to working for AirMed, Rey worked as a respiratory therapist within University of Utah Hospital and also in his local ground EMS agency. He was inspired by his interactions with AirMed crews to be part of this team

When asked what he loves about working for AirMed, Rey says “​​The people I work with are some of the smartest people I know. The thrill of the job never gets old and how much of a difference we make on people’s worst times makes me happy.”

Outside or work, Rey enjoys skiing, trying new foods from different countries, traveling, spending time with his wife and kids.

Congratulations to Flight Paramedic Stephanie Faulkner for her 10 years of service milestone at AirMed

Prior to working for AirMed, Stephanie worked as a Sheriff’s Office deputy paramedic, as well as a firefighter.

When asked what she loved most about this job, Stephanie said “Never knowing what you will encounter during the shift” and “getting to see the Utah mountains from a different perspective”

Outside of work Stephanie likes to ski, hike, be outside, and spend time with her husband and her pup Echo.
