Central 9th Community Council

Located just East of the Granary, and South of Downtown, the Central 9th neighborhood has the rare quality of being simultaneously quaint and connected.

Defined by front porches and single-family dwellings on tree-lined streets and a diverse array of restaurants, Central Ninth is also the home to many locally-owned service providers and small manufacturers. Cooler temperatures + a little help from Mother Nature = a good time to give the sprinklers a break.

Cutting back on unnecessary outdoor watering helps conserve our limited water supply, reduces demand on the system, and makes better use of the rain we’re getting.

Take a minute to check your sprinkler schedule and adjust it for the changing weather. Every little bit helps—and your lawn will be just fine.

Big congratulations to our neighbors at Star of India!

Located right on the edge of Central Ninth and the Ballpark neighborhood at 1000 S. Main Street, Star of India has been named a MICHELIN Recommended restaurant in the inaugural MICHELIN Guide Southwest. What an incredible recognition for a longtime Salt Lake favorite—and a great moment for our corner of the city.

Congratulations to the entire Star of India team, and to all nine Utah restaurants recognized by MICHELIN. These honors are a testament to the chefs, servers, bartenders, owners and hospitality teams who continue to make Utah’s dining scene something worth celebrating.

After three years of community effort, 122 banners now line Harvey Milk Boulevard—and we couldn’t be more excited to see them in place.

The 60 sets of banners feature Harvey Milk Blvd placemaking on one side and Salt Lake City’s “Belonging” design on the other, celebrating the identity of this special corridor and reinforcing a simple message: everyone belongs here.

This project was made possible by the support of so many community partners, organizations, businesses, neighbors, and advocates. We’re grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life.

Looking for a place to cool off during the heat?

Salt Lake County’s Cool Zones are public buildings where you can take a break from the heat and connect with available community services. Libraries, recreation centers, and other public facilities are participating, with each location following its regular hours, holiday closures, and facility policies.

Salt Lake County Recreation Centers are offering designated Cool Zones during normal operating hours, and five recreation centers will have extended Cool Zone hours on Sunday, July 12, to provide additional relief when many other facilities are closed. You can cool off in designated areas without purchasing full access to the recreation center.

Seniors ages 60+ are welcome at Salt Lake County Senior Centers, and youth ages 0–18 receive free access to Salt Lake County Recreation Centers through the My County Rec Pass program.

SLCFD Fire Investigations is requesting video evidence from the public and businesses to help identify a female individual that was in the area of five separate fires the morning of June 20, 2026. The female is approximately 45-60 years old with short blonde hair, wearing black tank top and possibly carrying a blanket.

We are specifically looking for camera footage for the hours between 0530-0830 on 6/20/2026. We believe the travel route of the individual begins at 1400 S West Temple. She then travels to 200 West and Fayette. The individual continued north on 200 W and the turned west on 900 S and entered the alley west of 900 S and S Washington St. The individual then continues west on 900 S and then turns southbound onto 400 W. The individual is seen on camera behind Target. From Target she travels east on Paxton, north on 300 W and then east on 900 S.

Help save a piece of Salt Lake history!

The iconic Coachman’s Diner sign needs our help. The property was recently purchased by Sapa Group, who has generously agreed not to demolish the historic sign and is willing to donate it for preservation. However, the sign cannot remain on the property and must be relocated.

Funds are urgently needed to:

🔹 Safely remove the sign
🔹 Provide short-term storage
🔹 Help secure a permanent home by November
