Farmers and Homeowners Can Dispose of Waste Pesticides Sept. 16

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA) is offering the opportunity to safely dispose of outdated, unusable, or unwanted pesticides at an upcoming event:

September 16, 2025
9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Carolina Fresh Farms
1335 E Pine Log Rd
Aiken, SC 29803

The pesticide and chemical program is only open to farmers and homeowners. SCDA staff will be on site to monitor pesticide collection and disposal and will have final authority on acceptance of products. No products will be accepted from businesses, dealers, commercial applicators, non- commercial applicators, manufacturers, or distributors.

β€’ Chemical and pesticide quantities accepted will be limited to 2500 pounds of solid and 300 gallons of liquid at no charge.
β€’ Pesticide products accepted include herbicides, insecticides, nematicides, fungicides, and similar products used in agricultural production or around the home.
β€’ Rinsate will not be accepted. Rinsate is pesticide-containing water that results from rinsing containers.
β€’ Fertilizer will not be accepted unless it is combined or co-packed with a pesticide such as w**d and feed.
β€’ No compressed gas cylinders (metal cylinder with a valve) or empty pesticide containers will be collected.

Collection events may be cancelled due to inclement weather, with the cancellation posted on SCDA’s website, agriculture.sc.gov. Possible makeup dates will be announced at a later date.

We are happy to announce that Mrs. Lauren Smith has accepted the Laurens County 4-H Agent position. Her first day is today, March 3, 2025.
Lauren has a B.S. in Animal and Veterinary Sciences from Clemson University. She has spent the past several years working as the Outdoor Program Manager with the Girls Scouts of South Carolina – Mountains to Midlands (based in Spartanburg), providing over 40 programs each year as well as hiring and training seasonal staff.
We will host a Meet-and-Greet for Lauren on Thursday, March 6 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm in the Laurens Extension Office. Plan to stop in and say Hello!
We are excited to have her in Laurens County. Welcome, Lauren!

Children and adolescents ages 6 through 17 need to be active for 60 minutes daily in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity.
-Aerobic activity: Most of the daily 60 minutes should include activities like walking, running, or anything that makes their hearts beat faster. At least 3 days a week should include vigorous-intensity activities.
-Muscle-strengthening: Includes activities like climbing or doing push-ups, at least 3 days per week.
-Bone-strengthening: Includes activities such as jumping or running, at least 3 days per week.
