PLEASE, PLEASE SHARE! Talk to your children.

Monitor your kids’ social media. Know what they are posting, sharing, and sending.

These “Cat in the Hat” posts are not a joke. They are taken extremely seriously by school officials and law enforcement. They cause fear, disrupt our schools, and take valuable time and resources to investigate.

Every threat will be taken seriously and investigated. If criminal charges are warranted, charges will be sought.

Please talk to your kids. One post, share, screenshot, or message can have very serious consequences.

CONTINUING TO SERVE 🚔CONTINUING TO LEARN 📚

Congratulations to SRO Michael “Mike” Nickels on successfully completing the 40-hour Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training for Kentucky Law Enforcement.

CIT is specialized training designed to provide law-enforcement officers with additional skills and knowledge for responding to individuals experiencing mental-health and behavioral crises. The training places an emphasis on recognizing crisis situations, effective communication, de-escalation, and working toward the safest possible resolution.

SRO Nickels brings more than 20 years of law-enforcement experience to the Magoffin County Schools. While our SROs have received numerous hours of law-enforcement training throughout their careers, we believe experience should never mean we stop learning.

Our officers continue to hone their skills, expand their knowledge, and seek specialized training that helps them better understand and respond to the challenges facing today’s students and schools.

School safety is about much more than responding to emergencies. It is also about recognizing when a student may be in crisis, knowing how to communicate, slowing a situation down when possible, and getting that student connected with the appropriate help.

Experience matters. Training matters. And continuing to learn matters.

Congratulations, SRO Nickels, on adding another valuable tool to help us serve and protect the students and staff of Magoffin County Schools.

Magoffin County Schools mourns the loss of Neil “Nehi” West.

Mr. West was an integral part of the Magoffin County school system for many years before his retirement in June 2025. Even after retiring, he continued to serve the district part-time, always willing to step in and help wherever he was needed.

Nehi was deeply devoted to Magoffin County athletics and cared greatly for our students and staff. He was dependable, punctual, hardworking, and, above all, genuinely caring. His dedication to our schools and the people within them made a lasting impact on our district.

He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him. We are grateful for his many years of service to Magoffin County Schools and for the countless ways he supported our school community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched during this difficult time.

🏈 FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS — FUN, FOOTBALL & SAFETY

Friday Night Lights are fun and should be experienced by all! There’s nothing quite like the excitement and action on the field, but safety for everyone is a priority both on and off the field.

We have a beautiful facility, but as most of you know, parking can be a challenge. The areas around the bleachers and concession stand can become very congested with vehicles, pedestrians, and children enjoying the evening.

The roadway into and out of the gravel parking lot can also become blocked, creating problems for visiting school buses and limiting access when it’s needed.

Please take a minute to look over the parking map before Friday night. There will be some changes to help improve traffic flow and, most importantly, keep everyone safe.

Please be patient, courteous, and mindful of where you park. A little cooperation from everyone goes a long way.

Let’s keep Friday Night Lights fun, exciting, and SAFE for everyone! 🏈
