Hornishforcouncil Campaign for City of Sammamish City Council Position #6

11/09/2015

Now--about a week after a successful campaign, I'm trying to figure out how best to thank everybody that helped. Hopefully, this FB post can help. I was simply amazed at all the support I received--many helping to sign wave in the cold rain, others going door-to-door with my campaign flyers, and mailers being sent out in support. Can't thank everyone enough or in a way that I feel is really sufficient, but THANK YOU! As the reality of being elected has set in over the last few days, I believe the best way to thank everyone is to do my best as a council member to vehemently represent the interests of our citizens. A couple of anecdotes from the campaign helped me better understand this. First, after thanking one volunteer for their help, they mentioned that such appreciation from me wasn't really necessary because they were really doing these things to help themselves, not me individually. Then after the successful results on 11/3, another individual noted "not only did you win, but our community won." These two comments hold a very interesting perspective indeed. I hope I can live up to everyone's (and my own) expectations, and help make the voice of our great city's citizens heard and understood. Looking forward to the next 4 years!

My opponent is once again being far less than transparent. Interesting fact--he and I met each other in the lobby of the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce as he was leaving and I was going in to discuss EBA's endorsement...then after I received their endorsement and he did not, my opponent is now trashing the organization. I guess he really believes "those grapes are probably sour anyhow" (per Aesop's fable).

I am proud to have council member Nancy Whitten's support. Hope this letter by her to the editor of the Sammamish Review helps voters understand what's really been happening under my opponent's leadership, and why.

I'm happy to have received EBA's endorsement (for position 6) along with Valderrama (position 4) and Malchow (position 2) after they interviewed all 5 candidates seeking their endorsement. EBA is a great organization associated with organizations such as the YMCA and Humane Society, and I'm proud to have their support!
