Calaveras Deputy Sheriff's Association The Calaveras Deputy Sheriff's Association (CCDSA) is a labor organization for line level members of the Calaveras Sheriff's Department.

It is a seperate entity from the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department. The CCDSA is a community organization which raises funds with the intent of being able to give back to members of the community and other community organizations. Our efforts focus mainly on specifcially youth programs and events but are also given to other worthy causes on a case by case basis. Through donations, community in

volvement and outreach we have been able to see lives changed for the better and programs continue that might otherwise be cut.

The Calaveras DSA is proud to welcome three new members!

On Monday, July 13, 2026, Deputies Scott Ryan, Rodolfo Figueroa, and Shane Theilen took the Oath of Office during a swearing-in ceremony held in the Community Room at the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Rachelle Whiting administered the Oath of Office in the presence of her command staff and the families of our newest lateral deputies. All three deputies join us after proudly serving with the Sonora Police Department and bring with them strong law enforcement backgrounds, deep ties to the region, and a shared commitment to serving their communities.

During conversations with each deputy, one common theme emerged: the opportunity to continue growing and serving with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. Each highlighted the many opportunities our agency provides, including our wide range of specialty assignments and future leadership opportunities. They recognized Calaveras County as a place where they can continue building their careers while making a meaningful difference in the community.

We are especially excited to welcome Deputy Rodolfo Figueroa back home. Deputy Figueroa previously served with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office and was a valued member of our SWAT Team. Returning with over 9 years of law enforcement experience, including time in a custody division, Deputy Figueroa brings valuable experience and a familiar connection to our agency. Outside of work, Rodolfo enjoys spending time with his family, hiking with his kids, homesteading, making homemade jam, selling fresh eggs, and recreational target shooting.

Deputy Scott Ryan joins our agency with 10 years of prior law enforcement experience, serving in both custody and patrol assignments. Before beginning his law enforcement career, Scott served for more than 3 years as a volunteer firefighter. Away from work, he enjoys weightlifting and cheering on the Chicago Bears.

Deputy Shane Theilen brings more than eight years of law enforcement experience to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. When he’s not serving the community, Shane enjoys hunting, fishing, and riding his dirt bike recreationally and competitively.

The Calaveras DSA Recognizes Deputy Mireya Ortega for Gold Medal Performance at United States Police & Fire Championships

The Calaveras County DSA is proud to recognize Deputy Mireya Ortega for her outstanding performance at the 59th Annual United States Police & Fire Championships, originally known as the Police Olympics, held in San Diego, California.

Deputy Ortega competed on Saturday, June 13, 2026, in the swimming competition hosted at Mater Dei High School in Chula Vista, California, where first responders from across the nation gathered to compete in one of the country’s premier public safety athletic events.

Deputy Ortega competed in three swimming events, including the 50-yard breaststroke, 50-yard freestyle, and the 100-yard individual medley. Through her dedication, discipline, and athletic ability, she captured gold in all three events.

In addition to her gold medal finishes, Deputy Ortega set two championship records:

• 50-yard freestyle – 25.69 seconds
• 100-yard individual medley – 1:03.26

The United States Police & Fire Championships attracts over 3,000 public safety professionals from law enforcement, fire service, EMS, corrections, and emergency communications across the country to compete in more than 35 athletic events.

Deputy Ortega’s accomplishments reflect the professionalism, commitment, and perseverance she brings not only to competition, but also to her service with the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.

If you’re lucky enough to run into Deputy Ortega while she’s out on patrol today, ask her about her weekend in San Diego. She’s carrying all three gold medals with her, and they’re even more impressive in person.

The DSA had a wonderful time at the county fair this year. We would like to congratulate all of the kids who dedicated their time and effort to raising their animals. Your hard work truly shows.
We wish we could support and purchase from every participant, and with such an impressive turnout, we were proud to spend even more than we originally budgeted. Thanks to our annual BBQ fundraiser, we were able to give back to our youth and continue supporting their efforts.
Thank you to all the kids and parents who support the DSA. We appreciate everything you do and look forward to continuing this tradition.
