Built in the historic Santa Rita neighborhood, it is home of "The Falcons" and one of the Gifted & Talented magnet campuses serving students from all over San Angelo. Santa Rita Elementary is a K-5 school serving students from all over the greater San Angelo area. Built in 1927, it has gone through many renovations and updates since first opening it's doors. From a new fenced in soccer turf, dance
studio, STEM room & robotics lab, to new class violin sets, school generated newspapers & daily student run morning shows, Santa Rita is working hard to showcase and celebrate all the ways our students are smart! As a Gifted and Talented magnet school, some of our students participate in the GT TRIYS Symposium each spring and take on a year long research and passion project of their choosing. We also offer many types of enrichment opportunities to serve the many interests of ALL of our students! These are both integrated into our curriculum and offered as a choice to students throughout the year. Some of our recent enrichment opportunities include: Gardening Club, Journalism, Art Club, Drones, Sewing/Crochet, Cheerleading, Robotics Club, Sports and Fitness, STEAM, Drama Club, Cooking, Carpentry, Mathletes, Foreign Language Clubs, Chess, Choir.....And many more! Santa Rita is ever-changing for the better, and we welcome you to come check it out! And even with all the innovative changes and new school updates, Santa Rita always holds true to our traditions and neighborhood values. Our school song says it all:
"Our Santa Rita is the best school in town. With loyalty true and a spirit to do,
So there's nothing too big and there's nothing too new. With prayers in our hearts and songs on our lips,
We work to be pilots and guide little ships. Surely God's helping where there are children around-
Santa Rita's the pride of our town."
*In 1939, Mrs. Sam Thorn became the Poet Laureate of Texas. She took a popular tune of the day, "A Shanty in Old Shanty Town" and set new words to the melody. It has been our school song ever since.
