Join Fire Chief Dan Mahoney as he walks us through a recent success story in defensible space. This achievement was highlighted during a 3-Alarm Commercial Structure Fire that involved wildland areas. Thanks to effective clearing, several structures were protected from what could have been significant damage.

Hello Neighbors,
The Marin Wildfire and your local fire department is committed to working with you to reduce the risk of wildfire through home hardening and defensible space evaluations on your property. Starting as early as July 1st, neighbors in the Barber and Winship neighborhoods of San Anselmo and Ross as well as Ross properties west of Sir Francis Drake will be evaluated for wildfire risk by your local fire department. If you are not at home, we will only inspect what we can see from the street to your front door.
Your Wildfire Risk Report will be available for review approximately 24 hours after the inspection. It provides steps to reduce wildfire risks and improve your safety. Please open your report, review the findings and access resources. Some actions may be required by law. Property owners are required to maintain their properties' vegetation at all times during fire season and should not wait for an inspection to begin work.
Review your report online or request a copy to be mailed to you. Go to marinwildfiredspace.org or call (415) 275 – 1185 for help and resources. Wildfire Risk Reports are available online to property owners, renters, and authorized representatives.
This program is provided by your local fire department and Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority, funded by Tax Measure C (2020)

Engineer Paramedic Hurn had the unique opportunity today to meet one of his surviving cardiac arrest patients. On March 15th, around 3:30 am, crews responded to a 911 call reporting smoke coming from an apartment complex. Upon arrival, they discovered food burning in the oven and the resident in cardiac arrest. Firefighters and quickly shifted their focus from the smoke filled apartment to providing medical care. They successfully restored the patient’s pulse at the scene and promptly transported to a nearby hospital. We are so happy this resident was able to return home to her family.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our good friend and co-worker Captain Rick Addicks, a dedicated firefighter of the Ross Valley Fire Department. His passing followed a courageous battle against the effects of occupational esophageal cancer. A battle he faced with the same resilience that characterized his firefighting career.

Captain Addicks served the County of Marin with bravery and commitment for over 22 years. Rick began his career as a Stinson Beach Fire Protection District volunteer. Shortly after, he transitioned to the Town of Ross, Ross Valley Fire Department where he moved up the ranks of Engineer and Captain. Beyond his exemplary service as a firefighter, he served on the Executive Board of the firefighters' labor union and played a pivotal role in establishing the Marin County Peer Support Team, providing firefighters with a secure environment to discuss mental health issues.

He is survived by his wife Kristen Addicks, and his children, Skye and Casey Addicks. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of firefighters to uphold the noble traditions of service and sacrifice.
