We're honored to be featured on Page 5 of Today's Catholic Newspaper Health & Wellness Magazine and to share the story behind this year's Beyond Backpacks event.

This year, 800 children will head back to school with a new backpack, school supplies, clothing, hygiene essentials, and the support their families need to start the school year strong.

A special thank you to Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc. , our partner in both healthcare and public health, for helping make this year's event possible. Together, we're investing in healthier kids, stronger families, and a brighter future for our community.

🎒 A backpack is important.

But for many children, it's not enough.

As the new school year approaches, hundreds of local children are facing more than a need for pencils and notebooks. They need shoes that fit. Clean clothes. Hygiene essentials. Food. Healthcare. Support systems that help them succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

Through Beyond Backpacks, we're helping nearly 800 Southside children from Pre-K through high school start the school year with the essentials they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

Reading to young children isn’t just a sweet moment — it builds vocabulary, strengthens brain development, nurtures imagination, and lays the foundation for lifelong academic success. When children are read to consistently in their early years, they enter kindergarten more prepared, confident, curious, and ready to learn.
