This year's Home Repair Fair will be held at a San Antonio landmark: the Wonderland of the Americas! This beloved San Antonio destination has decades of community history.

In 1962, a 50-foot-tall inflatable dome went up in the Wonderland parking lot for a special exhibition featuring a replica space capsule and scale models of the Atlas rocket. The main attraction: footage astronaut John Glenn filmed while orbiting the Earth.

This September, the Wonderland of the Americas will once again host an out-of-this-world experience: The Home Repair Fair🚀

The Home Repair Fair is a FREE annual event from the Office of Historic Preservation that connects homeowners and renters with local professionals, services, and resources for maintaining their homes.

Stop by our Exhibit Hall presented by Pella Windows & Doors to meet design professionals, craftspeople, contractors, vendors, nonprofits, and more. Then head to our Learning Studios, where skilled tradespeople offer an up-close look at the tools and techniques behind basic home repair. Ask questions and get hands-on experience as tradespeople rotate throughout the day to demonstrate their work.

Uptown Theater’s opening night was August 15, 1928, with an 11 pm showing of “My Lady of Whims” featuring Clara Bow. The theater was built by Victor Theater, Inc., which owned and operated other small independent theaters in San Antonio. Designed in the Moorish/Spanish architectural style, the theater features a heavily ornamented front door surround and other decorative embellishments.

In the late 70s, Architect Carlos Flores went into contract with J.J. Falbo Construction Co. to convert the structure into a gymnasium for St. Ann’s Parish, which still owns it.
