Last week's Home Repair Fair at Wonderland of the Americas was a huge success. The fair brought together 59 exhibitors, skilled tradespeople leading eight learning studios, and more than 1,000 San Antonio neighbors! Even though the fair is over, OHP provides free resources to San Antonio residents year-round, including our Preservation Academy series and hands-on trainings. You are invited to join the Office of Historic Preservation and Cafe Don Juan for a special unveiling. In celebration of Historic Heritage Month, we’re introducing a new History Here marker at the former site of Patio Andaluz.

The pachanga will continue at Jaime's Place across the street after the unveiling ceremony!

Patio Andaluz was a lively outdoor music venue in the 1950s and 60s known for its dances and hosting live bands. Local groups like the Royal Jesters, Sunny and the Sunliners, Little Henry & the Laveers, and the Dreamliners made their mark here. They blended Doo W*p, Soul, and R&B with Spanish-language harmonies, creating a unique sound that became what we now call the Westside Sound, or Chicano Soul.

TOMORROW, roll up your sleeves and get hands-on!

At the Home Repair Fair Learning Studios, you can talk directly with tradespeople, watch live demonstrations, and try practical home repair techniques yourself, walking away with the confidence to tackle a DIY repair project at home.

Studios will run for the full duration of the Fair, from 10 am to 2 pm. Each studio will repeat its demonstration on the hour.
