I’m in Washington, D.C., attending a judicial symposium, where judges from across the country discuss ideas and best practices that strengthen our courts and the fair administration of justice.

While I’m here, I took the opportunity to visit Arlington National Cemetery and stop by the gravesite of my cousin, Kara Hultgreen. Kara was a U.S. Navy lieutenant and the first female carrier-based fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy. She was a true pioneer whose courage and dedication helped open doors for future generations of military aviators.

It was nice to visit her and reflect on her remarkable legacy. Weeks like this are a reminder of the importance of service whether to our country or to our communities.

It was an honor to attend the 251st Birthday Celebration of the United States Army.

Established in 1775, when the Continental Congress authorized the enlistment of riflemen to serve the United Colonies, the Army is more than a year older than the Declaration of Independence.

Happy 251st Birthday to the U.S. Army, and thank you to all who have answered the call to defend our nation, protect our freedoms, and serve with courage and sacrifice around the world.

Great day at St. Mary’s University School of Law.

We held oral argument in the new Joe Gamez Courtroom, and later the en banc court had the privilege of judging the finals of the Schlueter 1L Moot Court Competition.

Congratulations to champions Brenden Herrmann and Jackson Veal, and to finalists Simone Bergeron and Adison McFall. Both teams did an outstanding job—no doubt they have bright futures ahead in the legal profession.

Honored to attend and receive a medal from The Court of the Final Frontiers—a great Fiesta tradition.
