San Antonio Military Community:
Sir/Ma’am, Whether you live in a dormitory, barracks, or privatized housing at Lackland, Randolph, or Fort Sam Houston, you deserve a safe, clean, and well-maintained place to call home. My goal is to ensure our housing communities support your well-being, readiness, and pride in our community. The quality of life we provide our residents is a direct reflection of how we value our people, and we are committed to providing environments where you and your families can truly thrive.
To guide our efforts, we are aligning all our housing resources around a simple standard: Would we consider this housing good enough for our own families? If the answer is no, we have more work to do. We are actively prioritizing investments to address aging infrastructure, improve common areas, and address facility maintenance. Privatized housing improvements are pursued within the contractual framework established under our Project Documents. We measure our progress not just by the number of work orders completed, but against established benchmarks and whether the daily living conditions are actually improving for the people who call our installation home.
To ensure we meet this standard across every dormitory, barracks, ship, and housing community, here is what you should expect:
1. Safe and Healthy Living Conditions. Facilities maintained to the highest standards, with timely attention to safety hazards, environmental concerns, climate controls, pest control, fire protection, and other conditions that affect your health and safety.
2. Clean and Well-Maintained Facilities. Living spaces, common areas, grounds, roads, sidewalks, recreational areas, and community facilities that are clean, functional, and routinely maintained.
3. Responsive Service. When you identify a problem, you should know exactly where to report it, receive a professional, timely response, and know how your report is being resolved. We will work to resolve issues at the lowest level possible, while ensuring significant or recurring problems receive command attention.
4. Reliable Infrastructure. Dependable access to essential services and infrastructure, including utilities, climate control, water quality, lighting, sanitation, and communications.
5. Respectful and Welcoming Communities. A safe environment where neighbors look out for one another and you feel respected and valued. You should trust that any security concerns are addressed in a timely, professional manner at all times.
6. Access to Quality-of-Life Resources. Active connections to opportunities for recreation, fitness, child and youth programs, community activities, dining, transportation, and support services that contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
7. A Voice in Your Community. Meaningful opportunities to raise concerns, provide feedback, and recommend improvements. We cannot fix what we do not know about, and our leaders and organizations are ready to listen.
Providing an excellent living environment is a partnership that requires active participation from everyone. Leadership and our housing partners are responsible for maintaining and improving these properties. Help us by keeping us informed. When you identify a hazard or maintenance issue in your home or dormitory, please report it immediately through your community management office or work order system so the responsible teams can address it. If a concern goes unresolved or you feel it is not receiving proper attention, please let us know.
The bottom line is that our families deserve to come home to a place that is safe, functional, and worthy of your service to our nation. Quality of life is not an extra. It is directly tied to our readiness and our mission. While some of our long-term infrastructure challenges will take time, adequate funding, and steady resources to fully resolve, our commitment to making measurable progress remains absolute.
