The past few months have included meaningful culinary exchange, international collaboration and global recognition for San Antonio.
As a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, San Antonio continues to use gastronomy as a tool for cultural exchange, international engagement and connection. Through the San Antonio Chef Ambassador Program, local chefs represented our city at home and abroad—sharing San Antonio’s culinary traditions while learning from food cultures around the world. Afyonkarahisar, Türkiye:
Chef Ambassador Stephannie Beyers participated in a gastronomy workshop and cooking camp, exploring local culinary traditions while also sharing a taste of San Antonio by preparing a Churro Co**ha during the event festivities.
Castelldefels, Spain
Chef Ambassador Sofia Sada participated in the inaugural Chefs Beyond Borders program during the Food Capitals Summit in May, joining chefs from around the world in culinary exchanges, cooking demonstrations and the creation of dishes that celebrated diverse food traditions.
San Antonio, Texas
Chef Ambassadors John Brand, Jesse Kuykendall, Lizzeth Martinez and Jason Dady showcased San Antonio’s distinctive culinary identity to Consuls General and senior diplomats representing countries from around the world. The event was organized by the City of San Antonio Economic Development Department’s Global Engagement Office.
Lone Star Tapas Showdown
San Antonio Chef Ambassadors past and present participated as competitors and judges in the inaugural World Tapas Competition event held in the United States. Congratulations to Chef Ambassador Sofia Sada, who earned the bronze medal for her Tostada de Lengua de Res Nixtamalizada! 🥉
